CentOS 5.5 server for the past 2 weeks. All of a sudden today it stopped working and I can't figure out why!! First off I'm running the package "samba3x", version 3.3.8-0.52.el5_5. My configuration file is as follows: [global] load printers = No netbios name = MyServer default = global path = /home wins server = 10.1.1.2 # windows pdc workgroup = workgroup os level = 20 encrypt passwords = yes security = share winbind separator = + available = No

[In] writeable = yes admin users = smbuser path = /home/myUser/www/share/1 valid users = smbuser public = yes available = yes The myUser/, www/ and share/ folders are all set to mode 755 and owned by myUser. The 1/ folder is mode 777 and owned by smbuser. Windows returns "System error 53 has occurred. The network path was not found." when I try to run the command: "net use \MyServer\In /user:smbuser smbuser". However, if I change the config to use /home/smbuser as the path instead, it works fine! The smbuser/ folder is using 700 and is owned by smbuser. So even though the 1/ folder is using mode 777 and is owned by smbuser, it doesn't work. Can anyone tell me why please? Thanks in advance. samba centos-5 share|improve this question asked Aug 16 '10 at 9:50 Reado 2161516 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote accepted Sorry, just sorted it. Looks like "smbuser" was the problem. Not sure why this should be the case, since the user account was setup correctly and has full access! I setup an smb account for "myUser" and used that to access the folder instead. It worked! share|improve this answer answered Aug 16 '10 at 10:30 Reado 2161516 add a comment| up vote 1 down vote I apologise for not posting as a comment to get some more information - I'm afraid I'm 2

After a reboot the mount point doesn't exist http://serverfault.com/questions/644467/centos-cifs-mount-point-fails-after-reboot-permission-denied-error-13 and running sudo mount -a results in: mount error 13 = Permission denied The entry in my fstab looks like this: //my.server/my\040Folder/MY\040SUBFOLDER/other\040folder /var/ftp/virtual_users/myfolder cifs username=mydomain\134myuser,password=mypassword 1 1 I've tried mounting manually in the command line using this: $ sudo mount -t cifs "//my.server/my Folder/MY SUBFOLDER/other folder" /var/ftp/virtual_users/myfolder --verbose -o username=myuser, password=mypassword, domain=mydomain My result is: mount.cifs kernel mount options: unc=//my.server\my Folder,ip=192.168.150.100,ver=1,rw,username=myuser,domain=mydomain,prefixpath=MY SUBFOLDER/other folder, pass=******** mount error 13 = Permission denied Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g.man mount.cifs) I can successfully log in with smbclient: $ smbclient "//my.server/my Folder" -U myuser -W mydomain and from there I can cd into the MY "SUBFOLDER/other folder" directory. After much google searching, many fixes involved setting the Security mode. I tried ntlm,ntlmi,ntlmv2,ntlmv2i but none of the options changed the output. There is a mount entry for another folder on this same server, which is working, but it doesn't go down to a sub folder: //my.server/other /var/ftp/virtual_users/other cifs username=mydomain\134myuser,password=mypassword,nobrl,noperm 1 1 I also tried adding the noperm and nobrl options to my problem mount, but no changes.
