DistroUbuntu Development Release Re: Error moving file: Permission denied You can't do that as a normal user as you are trying to move something into a system folder/file. To gain access, you have to use administrator privileges. Do that by opening nautilus with: Code: gksu nautilus Enter your password (Edit: actually, you WILL see it as you type in a GUI app) and hit enter. You can now move files into system folders, just be careful. Take a look at this link, which explains Root and Sudo: RootSudo Last edited by drs305; April 12th, 2011 at 01:36 AM. In this case, the permissions on . will be most important. Observe that the permissions are more complex than simply rwx. Your music folder has an @ at the end, the . folder has a + at the end. Use xattr -h to determine the complex permissions for the @ symbol. Use getfacl to determine the ACL for the + symbol. share|improve this answer edited Oct 6 '15 at 22:45 John Kugelman 1,2141514 answered Oct 6 '15 at 13:37 Konerak 763611 Do you have a resource that covers "complex permissions", as you call them? –user1717828 Oct 6 '15 at 13:39 man xattr might be a good starting point. –Konerak Oct 6 '15 at 13:51 nope, no manual entry. Most likely here, there was a deny delete ACLs that also prevents renaming. –Stéphane Chazelas Oct 6 '15 a

One of the best things about it is the Tools -> Open Current Directory as Root menu right at the top. It opens a new "Superuser" window when you enter your root (owner) password. Then I
