Then run the script /dvtcolorconvert.rb ~/Themes/ObsidianCode.xccolortheme on terminal, but it's always prompt "Permission denied". what's wrong with this? Anybody can help me solve this problem? Thanks. osx shell terminal share|improve this question edited Sep 5 '12 at 7:52 Henk Langeveld 4,2781838 asked Sep 5 '12 at 7:27 Andy_24 1831418 add a comment| 5 Answers 5 active oldest votes up vote 20 down vote accepted Please read the whole answer before attempting to run with sudo Try running sudo /dvtcolorconvert.rb ~/Themes/ObsidianCode.xccolortheme The sudo command executes the commands which follow it with 'superuser' or 'root' privileges. This should allow you to execute almost anything from the command line. That said, DON'T DO THIS! If you are running a script on your computer and don't need it to access core components of your operating system (I'm guessing you're not since you are invoking the script on something inside your home directory (~/)), then it should be running from your home directory, ie: ~/dvtcolorconvert.rb ~/Themes/ObsidianCode.xccolorth
OS Mavericks and I can no longer run .rb files in my terminal window. I'm getting the following line when I try and run the file. -bash: /Users/username/Desktop/rubyfiles/test.rb: Permission denied terminal permission denied android I'm pretty sure I was able to run the files before the update. fdisk permission denied mac I've tried changing permissions, but I'm too new at working with a Mac terminal to know what I'm doing. I bash permission denied linux am VERY new to working with the Mac Terminal, so I'm hoping this is a simple fix. Thank you for any help you can give me. 4 Answers Alexander Sokol 32,044 Points Alexander http://stackoverflow.com/questions/12276507/run-script-on-mac-prompt-permission-denied Sokol Alexander Sokol 32,044 Points over 2 years ago Hi Patricia! Alexander Sokol 32,044 Points Alexander Sokol Alexander Sokol 32,044 Points >2y ago Could you demonstrate here your input and output of Terminal? I mean copy/paste your commands that doesn't work and what Terminal output in response. I think, it will increase my ability to help you and solve this problem quickly. Patricia Snyder 4,957 Points Patricia Snyder Patricia Snyder 4,957 Points over 2 years ago Hi Alexander, I got this to work by changing the directory to my desktop and then typing ruby test.rb. I had been taught that I could drag and drop the file into the terminal and it would run. I remember it running that way before I updated to Mavericks, but then again, I've been switching between my Mac and PC. I could have used that method on my PC and not the Mac. This is what I got before.
