He shows us his OS, the version of the packages he's running, his configuration file, and the method to reproduce the issue. He obviously didn't know about the magic flag required to make this work, but that's why he's asking ServerFault. What good is a Q&A site that requires you to know the A before you ask the Q? –Christopher Karel Jul 8 '14 at 16:50 3 @kce Would that have helped us answer his question in any way? Denied error on NFS client on Solaris 10 By Xuemei Yu on Apr 09, 2010 I ran into this error duing the following command: v240vic-1 # useradd -c https://blogs.oracle.com/sherryyu/entry/solve_permission_denied_error_on "SAP System Administrator" -d /usr/sap/ac1adm -s /bin/tcsh -g sapsys -G sapinst -m ac1adm UX: useradd: ERROR: Unable to change ownership of home directory: Permission denied Where /usr/sap/ is a directory automounted onto http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/networking/44779-nfs-permission-denied-error.html an NFS server that granted full permission to me. This problem is related to the fact that Solaris 10 uses NFS version 4. If the NFS client runs in version 4 permission denied against a NFS version 4 server, there are additional authentication checks in place that either allow or prevent root on the client machine from doing certain things. The temporary solution is to switch to Client NFS version 3. The switch of NFS client version is in file /etc/default/nfs: NFS_CLIENT_VERSMAX=4 As a temporary fix, this can be set to NFS_CLIENT_VERSMAX=3 on the client machine. nfs permission denied After umount and mount the NFS mount point the command succeeded. To enable root write, on NFS server set "share -o rw,root=

Join Date Sep 2005 Posts 4 NFS and permission denied error Hi All, I've exhausted my knowledge of Linux networking and need some help with a seemingly impossible problem. What I'm trying to do is very simple, even for me. I'm trying to set up a standard NFS client/server between two machines running Mandrake 10.1 with the default kernel version (2.6.8.1-12mdk). After quadruple checking my configurations and service status, I am receiving "Permission Denied" errors from the server. The funny part (not really) is that I had this working with very little effort a month ago. Then I had to muck with the system and I can't get it working again! I've tried everything I know of and could find online, but to no avail. I'll post any relevant system configuration files and cmd line output that may help. Do you see anything that I'm missing or misconfiguring??? If there's something else you would like to see, please tell me. Any help at this point is greatly appreciated! ********** Server Config (myserver) ************* /etc/hosts Code: [root@myserver root]# cat /etc/hosts 127.0.0.1 localhost 129.190.219.122 myserver 129.190.219.116 myc
