it throws Error: EACCES: permission denied error. I know it is permission issue but as far as I know, sudo permission is not required for installing node module locally. If I run it with sudo, it gets installed inside ~/node_modules folder. drwxrwxr-x is the file permission of existing folder. I can't figure out what might have gone wrong. Don't use sudo. Do this instead: sudo chown -R $USER /usr/local/ and then never use sudo again with npm. http://foohack.com/2010/08/intro-to-npm/#what_no_sudo 👍 7 kavenyan commented Aug 25, 2010 Yes, I see , thank you. yigitgenc commented Oct 31, 2011 It helped! Thanks! kumarharsh commented Jun 8, 2013 I still find this a very problematic issue: @isaacs : I have tried your solution: http://foohack.com/2010/08/intro-to-npm/#what_no_sudo If I now make a file manually at /usr/lib, it works, and also works for some packages. But, npm install -g fails for some packages, which try to make a symlink (to /usr/bin I suppose). I guess there is no solution but to use sudo then, is there? codesspark commented Jul 29, 2015 THankyoU This issue was closed. Sign up for free to join this conversation on GitHub.
