Reboot, and see what that does. Otherwise, try a Dos mode mouse driver, and test it in Edit. Solved windows protection error : msmouse.vxd Posted on 2000-05-14 Windows OS 1 Verified Solution 2 Comments 255 Views Last Modified: 2013-12-28 Hi there, I've tried to install Win 98 (upgrade or http://forums.windrivers.com/showthread.php?13077-RESOLVED-system-freeze-loading-msmouse-vxd clean install) and during the final reboot I get a "windows protection error". When I remove the line in the system.ini with msmouse.vxd in it, it boots just fine, without mouse support of course. Win 95 and Win 2000 work just fine. If the msmouse.vxd is the problem, is there way to get an updated driver ? 0 Question by:kenobi Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 1 Best Solution bykoengi is https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/10350309/windows-protection-error-msmouse-vxd.html this of any help??????http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q140/4/41.asp?LN=EN-US&SD=gn&FR=0 Go to Solution 2 Comments LVL 1 Overall: Level 1 Message Accepted Solution by:koengi2000-05-15 is this of any help??????http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q140/4/41.asp?LN=EN-US&SD=gn&FR=0 0 Message Expert Comment by:anthonyp2000-05-15 What kind of mouse is it microsoft or other? (msmouse.vxd is culprit) Talk about sensitive. I got a new WWII game that works best with a joystick. So I pulled out the old MS Precision Pro protection error msmouse joystick and plugged it in my SoundBlaster Game Port. I have a SB Live Value! I thought it may just work by just pluging it in. It didnt so I went to Game Controllers in the Control Panel. Added the SideWinder and restarted my comp. Then I got a Windows Protection Error after the logo screen popped up. So I went into Safe Mode removed the gameport drivers. Booted up...Windows Protection Error...hhhmm I thought..it seems to be having problems during the driver boot. So I went to the Stetp-By-Step Confimation...agreed to yes to every thing...got the the list of .vxd files to load...then after I hit "Y" for msmouse.vxd..that is when I got the Protection error. So i rebooted did the step-by -step again but this time i selected "N" for msmouse.vxd. It booted up fine. And the mouse works. It was late so I havnt tried to boot again. But Im afraid it will do the protection error again. What could be causing this problem and how can I get my joystick to work (i know now that I have separate drivers for the joystick itself)? Tha
