error when configuring your SBS 2003. Analyzing and suggestions: Generally speaking, the issue should be caused by the DHCP server is not running correctly. This issue should be occurred, if the DHCP server is not configure to authorize for proper subnet. By default, SBS 2003 will disable its DHCP server if it detects another DHCP server on the network. This behavior is by design. The recommended solution is to use only one DHCP server on the network. If you configure a router as a BOOTP relay agent, the DHCP Server fails with event ID 1053 when the server receives a DHCP request from another subnet. This can occur if the BOOTP relay agent forwards the DHCP Offer frame from the DHCP server to the broadcast address (255.255.255.255) instead of forwarding the Offer frame directly to the client computer that requested the IP address. The DHCP server sees this traffic and interprets it as another DHCP server on the same network, which causes the DhcpServer service to fail. To resolve this issue, configure the BOOTP relay agent to forward the Offer frame directly to the requesting DHCP client instead of to the broadcast address. For help configuring the router, contact the manufacturer. For additional information about BOOTP relay, see the following article: 120932 DHCP: Spanning Multiple Subnets http://support.microsoft.com/?id=120932 Please also refer to the steps below: 1. Open Server Manager - Advanced Management - Computer Management - Services and Applications. 2. Right click on DHCP and select Properties. 3. Select Advanced Tab, Bindings Button. There should be 2 Network Connections shown there - but only one should be checked (Server Local Area Connection) 4. Deselect the other connection and click OK your way back to the Server Manager screen. 5. Right click on DHCP again, All Tasks, Start. If the above is not the issue, please also try to start the DHCP services on SBS 2003 to see if it can be start, if not please paste the detailed error message to newsgroup, from warning message we may find the IP address of the DHCP server on SBS domain that detected by the SBS. Please also run ipconfig/all at the client side and server side and paste the information to newsgroup. I appreciate your effort on this issue, please feel free to let me know. if you have any further concerns on it.
