04:55:32 Hi All,We have a server running SQL Express 2008 and we have an ODBC connection to our database. For some reason every day between 0800 and 0810 the ODBC connection droops and fails to connect anymore.error: ConnectioN Failed:SQL State: '01000'SQL Server Error: 231[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SharedMemory]ConnectionOpen(Connect()).Connection Failed:SQL State: '08001'SQL Server Error: 17[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SharedMemory]SQL server does not exist or access denied. To rectify

the problem we have to restart SQL server. But before we do that we are able to log in to SQL through management studio, connect to the database, and access all tables. There are no backups running, no errors in the SQL log, and nothing running in our software at the time. There is nothing interesting in windows Event viewer either.Does anybody have any suggestions of the problem, or to help diagnose it?Thanks in advance. Have you reviewed scheduled tasks?- LumbagoMy blog-> http://thefirstsql.com/2011/07/08/how-to-find-gaps-in-identity-columns-at-the-speed-of-light/ colour_indigo Starting Member United Kingdom 5 Posts Posted-10/20/2011: 08:18:52 The SQL server is running, we can still log in to it fine and access tables through the Management studio. The SQl server is on the same box so can't be network issue.username and password are correct - as soon as you restart SQL server the ODBC connection is fine. We've been using 2k but I decided to try 2k8 to compare. I installed in on our win2k3 server alongside mssql2k. In the ODBC applet on the server, sql server error I was able to set up access to 2k8, and it passes the test at the end successfully, whether I tell it to use Windows Authentication or an sql login. The latter is how the app always accessed mssql2k. The app works fine from the server, but when I try it on a workstation (winxpsp3), I get a window titled, "Microsoft SQL Server Login" that says: Connection failed: SQLState: '01000' SQL Server Error: 53 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionOpen (Connect()). Connection failed: SQLState: '08001' SQL Server ERror: 17 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SQL Server does not exist or access denied. Then I get the ODBC login dialog, which I can't get to login correctly (I just keep getting the same error above), even copying and pasting a password after resetting it on the server, and whether "trusted" is checked or not. "Options" is disabled. The server was straight SERVERNAME for mssql2k, but for mssql2k8 it's called SERVERNAME\mssql2008. That works on the server, why not on the workstation? It was working when SQL Server was on my computer but now i'm trying to connect to a server So when I create the DSN file with access I chose SQL-Server driver ( I have also tried with SQL-Server native 10.0 ) I enter the server name that I copied from SQL Management Studio so there's no typo there I chose the NT authentication Then I have this error In the properties, I tried with TCP/IP with the default port 1433 and I also tried with the name pipes I made sure that the checkbox to allow remote connection is checked If I try to connect with management studio I got this error I can see the server when I browse on the network I'm trying this troubleshotting but i'm stuck with the telnet command. It says Could not open connection to host on 1433 I also tried with no port and i got the same error on port 23 Any ideas?
