You can find the account that sql server is running under using the services control panel, which you'll find in administrative tools. more ▼ 0 total comments 300 characters / 50 words answered Apr 09, 2010 at 06:24 PM Matt Whitfield ♦♦ 29.5k ● 62 ● 66 ● 88 add new comment (comments are locked) 10|1200 characters needed characters left ▼ Everyone Moderators Original poster and moderators Other... Most common reason I see this scenario is an account password change in AD and then not changed in the service properties more ▼ 0 total comments 260 characters / 46 words answered Apr 09, 2010 at 07:22 PM Fatherjack ♦♦ 43.7k ● 79 ● 98 ● 117 add new comment (comments are locked) 10|1200 characters needed characters left ▼ Everyone Moderators Original poster and moderators Other... You can try two things. 1) If you security policy permits it, open SQL Server Configuration Manager, go to SQL Services -> SQL Server and right-click it to open the Properties window. Change logon account temporarily to the built-in account Local System and try again. If it works, you probably have a permission error. 2) You can also try going to SQL Server Installation Center and running Repair. –RSax Aug 29 '15 at 8:03 add a comment| active oldest votes Know someone who can answer? It's a situation that brings immediately to the mind of the DBA images of late nights, lost weekends and cold pizza at 3 a.m. A number of problems can prevent the SQL Server service from sql server starting and this article will examine the more common ones and, I hope, offer a way out of the nightmare. I cover: Service account password incorrect or account locked or disabled Corrupt or missing master database files Corrupt or missing model database files Unable to create tempDB Unable to open the error log Before diving into the various possible causes, we'll start with some basic troubleshooting steps that will help identify the cause. could not open Common Symptoms and Initial Troubleshooting The first and most obvious symptom will be that the SQL Server service is not running and an error greets your attempts to restart it. The Windows Application Event Log will do as well, but I prefer the SQL error log, as I can see all the messages at once, and not have to click on them one by one. The SQL error log is just a text file on disk. If you're unsure of its location, check the startup parameters of the SQL Server service in SQL Server Configuration Manager, as shown in Figure 3. Figure 3: SQL Server startup parameters The -e parameter is the one we need and, in my case, I can see that my error log should be in the folder: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\
