The Login Already Has An Account Under A Different User Name Dbo

I had a job that was failing and I wanted to execute the job using a windows account. On the "Job Step Properties" under "Advanced" you can change dbo login name create an output file and run as a user that you select from user in that particular database. I tried to add a user to the database and get the above error. The user I am trying to add is a Sysadmin user that already has this particular database checked in it's user mappings. When I go to the "Login Properties" Page where all the databases listed for this user I see the database name I am interested in with the "Map" column checked and under the "User" and "Default Schema" I see dbo. I know I can change the user to the user I am interested in but I do not know the ramifications of that change or if it will fix my problem of adding this user to the database I am interested in. I have looked on-line but not found anything that can help me with an understanding of how the Login Properties page works or how to accomplish what I really want and that is to add this user to this particular database...Any help or guidance will be greatly appreciated Po

Or, in other words, another database user is using this login. You can see what database user is using your login with the following query: use YourDB go SELECT su.name as DatabaseUser FROM sys.sysusers su join sys.syslogins sl on sl.sid = su.sid where sl.name = 'test' -- login PS: a version of the script that doesn't use the compatibility views: Select sp.name as LoginName, sp.type_desc as LoginType, dp.name as DBUser, dp.type_desc as UserType from sys.server_principals sp join sys.database_principals dp on dp.sid = sp.sid where sp.name = 'test' -- your login share|improve this answer edited Feb 22 '13 at 14:42 answered Feb 22 '13 at 8:06 Marian 11.6k13056 Ok, I see the value dbo being displayed. Check out this: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/9faf79d0-f4b6-4b6c-9505-68cd2ec636af/the-login-already-has-an-account-under-a-different-user-name-microsoft-sql-server-error-15063?forum=sqlsecurity I would recommend looking at the SIDs on both the server scope (sys.server_principals) and the database scope (sys.database_principals) to help you correlate the name of the user mapped to the login. There are two likely possibilities for the root cause of this problem: 1) You restored a DB that contained already users mapped in it that are conflicting with your application. 2) The model DB was modified and the user was created there. In this case every time a new DB is created the new user will be mapped as well. I would recommend using T-SQL script directly instead of using the SQL Server Management Studio while debugging this scenario. SSMS is not resilient to this kind of problems and it will probably fail to execute the operations you need. share|improve this answer answere
