How can I provide enough information? –bdkhsn Dec 23 '13 at 10:01 can you check if your SQL Errorlog file has become read only? I just had this 2 weeks ago and still looking for a root cause. C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.n\MSSQL\LOG\ERRORLOG. Btw, this is based on the assumtion that infact your SQL Server was running happily and nobody or nothing has changed anything to the system. Windows Could Not Start The Sql Server (mssqlserver) Service On Local Computer Error 1067
0 Sign in to vote We are in the process of upgrading from MOSS 2007 to SharePoint 2010. I created a SharePoint 2010 http://dba.stackexchange.com/questions/55485/windows-could-not-start-the-sql-server-mssqlserver-service-on-local-computer-e development server. All elements of the SharePoint environment are contained on this one server. This has MSSQL Enterprise installed on it as well as SharePoint 2010. I did an "attach database" of a copy of a database from our MOSS 2007 environment. Everything was looking good. After the server was exactly the way we wanted it, we created a template of the original server and then provisioned a new virtual server from the template with a different server name. Obviously nothing worked. I ran STSADM -o renameserver and it completed fine. One thing that happens now is that the SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) service will not start. Here is the error message in the event log: The SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) service terminated with service-specific error %%17058. At the command prompt I went to c:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\mssql10_50.mssqlserver\mssql\binn. I ran the command sqlservr.exe /c I get the following error: 2011-11-07 09:52:14.49 Server Error: 17058, Severity: 16, State: 1. 2011-11-07 09:52:14.49 Server initerrlog: Could not open error log file 'E:\MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER\MSS

Once of my friend contacted me and when I asked for ERRORLOG, he informed that there is no ERRORLOG file and SQL is not getting started. I suggested him that we should sql server analyze event log for further details, after interestingly, we found the following details in the event 17058 about initerrlog: Could not Open Error Log File.Log Name: Application Source: MSSQLSERVER Event ID: 17058 Task Category: Server Level: Error Description: initerrlog: Could not open error log file ". Operating system error = error 17058 sql 3(The system cannot find the path specified.). We finally found that the error occurs due to the insufficient privilege of SQL Server Service Account in the Log directory: E:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL12.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\LogHere is the fix of the issue.Start SQL Server Configuration manager.Click to select ‘SQL Server Services' from the left menu options. On the right panel, right click on ‘SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER)' and click ‘Properties'. You may want to choose correct service.Click ‘Startup Parameters' tab. Note the location after -e parameter.Browse the Log location " E:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL12.MSSQLSERVER \MSSQL\Log".Right click on the folder "Log" and click Properties and then to visit to "Security" tab. Now, check SQL Server service account permission on this folder and give proper access to this folder. Now, Restart the SQL Server service. If you face the same error again, try to change highly privileged service account like "Local System".After giving permission, we were able to s
