Using the SQL Server Service Startup Options http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms190737.aspx The most common ones by far that I use on SQL startup issues are:- Sr.no Parameter Description 1. -c Start as a console application, not as a service. 2. -m Tries to start the SQL service in single user mode, i.e. only a single user can connect. This single user connection can be either a sysadmin or a regular user connection 3. -f Tries to start the SQL service in Minimal configuration mode. This implicitly puts SQL Server in single-user mode and this also means only the system databases master, model, tempdb & mssqlsystemresource are recovered and started. 4. -T XXXX Tries to start the SQL Server should be started with the specified trace flag which follows after -T. Again this is case sensitive. 5. -g Specifies the number of megabytes (MB) of memory that SQL Server leaves available for memory allocations within the SQL Server process, but outside the SQL Server buffer pool. Join them; it only takes a minute: Sign up Can't start SQL Server - Error 3 (The system cannot find the path specified.) mdf up vote 0 down vote favorite My daily VPS packed up, websites wouldn't start in IIS and after trying to get the World Wide Web Service to run it turned out to be a problem with the WAS service or something like that. Daily tech support looked at this (reluctantly as I don't pay for a managed service) They said this. I have investigated the issue and we would need to make a clone of the VPS itself as this does normally resolve the issue of WAS and IIS errors. They went ahead and this resolved the problem but I cant get the MSSQL(instance name) service to start. I looked at the error logs and it says it can't find the .mdf but it's there as I checked. This is the master.mdf by the way.
