Sql Server Connection String Timeout
down vote favorite $SQLconnection = New-Object System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection $SQLconnection.ConnectionString = "Server = MySQLservername\MSSQLSERVER; Database = "MYSQLDB"; Integrated Security = True" $SQLconnection.open() In MSSQL 2012, works. In MSSQL 2005, got SQL Network Interfaces, error: 25 - Connection string is not valid. If use "Server = MySQLServername" only in connectionstring, works. I am sure the instance name is right. You have "MYSQLDB" in the middle of the connection string and you didn't escape the double quotes in the quoted string. You can see this by running these two commands: $a = write-output "Server = MySQLservername\MSSQLSERVER; Database = "MYSQLDB"; Integrated Security = True" $b = write-output "Server = MySQLservername\MSSQLSERVER; Database = `"MYSQLDB`"; Integrated Security = True" $a.gettype() $b.gettype() The first line returns an array instead of a string because the semi-colon is seen as running two commands Just remember to escape double quotes in double-quoted strings you'll be fine: $SQLconnection.ConnectionString = "Server = MySQLservername\MSSQLSERVER; Database = `"MYSQLDB`"; Integrated Security = True" share|improve this answer answered Sep 9 '12 at 14:21 Chad Miller 14.7k31825 add a comment| up vote 1 down vote If your database/instance is provided on a port number, I got the error 25 when I didn't set up the connection string correctly. $SQLconnection.ConnectionString = "Server = MySQLservername.domain.ext\InstanceName, PORT

Server > SQL Server Setup & Upgrade Question 1 Sign in to vote Hi, I just installed SQL Server 2008 full edition http://stackoverflow.com/questions/12336613/sql-network-interfaces-error-25-connection-string-is-not-valid-in-powershell on my machine but am not able to connect to the default MSSQLSERVER database. When I set it up, I specified Windows authentication. And so that is how I try to connect to it. And even though I see the MSSQLSERVER service in https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/391b5310-0cec-43b6-a1b4-62d094101fdd/error-25-connection-string-is-not-valid-net-sqlclient-data-provider?forum=sqlsetupandupgrade the Sql Server Configuration Manager, I still can't connect to it. while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 25 - Connection string is not valid)" I was going crazy over this error. I run VS2005 Standard and SQL Server 2005 (not Express). The mdf file in my app originates from Express though. And this must be part of the problem, of course, since they are not directly compatible (SQL Server and SQL Express, that is). The solution for me was not what I had read from other people's experiences (even if I had found my exact problem, maybe I still wouldn't find a solution that worked for me!). The error code occured when I went to Server Explorer and tried to get a connection to my mdf file, a red circle and line appearing alongside the mdf file. The mdf file was attached in Management Studio Express (I installed Management Studio Express since, for some reason, Management Studio is missing from my SQL Server installation.) Under the assumption this was interferring in some way I detached the mdf from Studio Express and tried again - same error! This is almost as long as the problem felt for me so I will get to the solution: I deleted the connection in Server Explorer, then did Add Connection and, in the Choose Data Source dialog, instead of selecting SQL Server Database File (which would sound right) I selected
