It was because the VIA protocol appeared to be enabled. After disabling it (in SQL Server Configuration Manager there are protocols for this instance) everything is OK. share|improve this answer answered Feb 15 '10 at 11:49 rem 15828 add a comment| protected by Michael Hampton♦ Jun 20 '14 at 13:18 Thank you for your interest in this question. The Eventlog shows the following event: The SQL Server (MAILARCHIVER) service terminated with service-specific error The specified resource name cannot be found in the image file.. I know this could mean missing or corrupted master / tempdb / model files, however, these are present and located where they should be. I reverted to earlier versions of these files, but that hasn't solved the issue, I keep getting this error. As far as I know, there have not been any server events that could have caused an SQL Server service crash, corrupting the files. Also, a different instance running on the same server is not experiencing any issues at all. I am far from an SQL Expert, so I would like to call upon your combined expertise for some info / pointers / heads-ups that would help me solve this problem. Please let me know if you require more detailed info. Answered 8/23/2011 11:43:05 AM by Greg Robidoux (0) Check the account that you are using for the SQL Server services to make sure it has permissions. If you login as a local admin on the box and then open the SQL Server Configuration Manager tool you can check the services that are being used and update as needed. If you are using a domain account is it possible that password has changed or that account does not have the necessary permissions? Answered 8/24/2011 4:58:03 AM by Erik Schulp (-1) @Greg: Just to make sure, I checked the account and it is one that has full rights on the box the SQL Server instance runs on. The entire SQL setup has run fine with this config/setup and I can't find any leads in event logs on the server with info as to why it has stopped. @Armando: Since I can't use the Management Studio on the failed instance, is there another way to access those logs? Are they plain text or is there some other tool available? Thanks very much for your
