Windows Could Not Start The Sql Server (mssqlserver) Service On Local Computer
> SharePoint 2010 - Setup, Upgrade, Administration and Operations Question 0 Sign in to vote We the sql server service terminated with service-specific error 7024 are in the process of upgrading from MOSS 2007 to SharePoint 2010. I created a SharePoint 2010 development server. All elements of the SharePoint environment http://dba.stackexchange.com/questions/55485/windows-could-not-start-the-sql-server-mssqlserver-service-on-local-computer-e are contained on this one server. This has MSSQL Enterprise installed on it as well as SharePoint 2010. I did an "attach database" of a copy of a database from our MOSS 2007 environment. Everything was looking good. This server was to be a template for a series of developer https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/6df7d5a2-3d7a-4aa2-bc48-8ae68d9562f6/error-17058-starting-sql-server-mssqlsrver-service-on-sharepoint-server?forum=sharepointadminprevious SharePoint environment in an ESX VMWare environment. After the server was exactly the way we wanted it, we created a template of the original server and then provisioned a new virtual server from the template with a different server name. Obviously nothing worked. I ran STSADM -o renameserver and it completed fine. One thing that happens now is that the SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) service will not start. Here is the error message in the event log: The SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) service terminated with service-specific error %%17058. At the command prompt I went to c:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\mssql10_50.mssqlserver\mssql\binn. I ran the command sqlservr.exe /c I get the following error: 2011-11-07 09:52:14.49 Server Error: 17058, Severity: 16, State: 1. 2011-11-07 09:52:14.49 Server initerrlog: Could not open error log file 'E:\MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\Log\ERRORLOG'. Operating system error = 5(Access is denied.). The account that I am using is a local administrator account. Anyone have any idea
SERVER - Event 17058 - initerrlog: Could not Open Error Log File August 5, 2016Pinal DaveSQL1 commentIf you have ever interacted with me or taken my services, you would notice that I always ask for ERRORLOG in almost all of http://blog.sqlauthority.com/2016/08/05/sql-server-event-17058-initerrlog-not-open-error-log-file/ my contact with my client. Once of my friend contacted me and when I http://www.morgantechspace.com/2014/05/Event-17058-initerrlog-Could-not-open-error-log-file-SQL-Server.html asked for ERRORLOG, he informed that there is no ERRORLOG file and SQL is not getting started. I suggested him that we should analyze event log for further details, after interestingly, we found the following details in the event 17058 about initerrlog: Could not Open Error Log File.Log Name: Application Source: MSSQLSERVER Event sql server ID: 17058 Task Category: Server Level: Error Description: initerrlog: Could not open error log file ". Operating system error = 3(The system cannot find the path specified.). We finally found that the error occurs due to the insufficient privilege of SQL Server Service Account in the Log directory: E:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL12.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\LogHere is the fix of the issue.Start SQL Server Configuration manager.Click to select ‘SQL error code 17058 Server Services' from the left menu options. On the right panel, right click on ‘SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER)' and click ‘Properties'. You may want to choose correct service.Click ‘Startup Parameters' tab. Note the location after -e parameter.Browse the Log location " E:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL12.MSSQLSERVER \MSSQL\Log".Right click on the folder "Log" and click Properties and then to visit to "Security" tab. Now, check SQL Server service account permission on this folder and give proper access to this folder. Now, Restart the SQL Server service. If you face the same error again, try to change highly privileged service account like "Local System".After giving permission, we were able to start the SQL Service. Have you faced a similar error?Reference: Pinal Dave (http://blog.sqlauthority.com) Tags: SQL Error Messages, SQL Server, SQL Server Management Studio, Starting SQL416Related Articles SQL SERVER - 2005 - SSMS Change T-SQL Batch Separator May 18, 2007Pinal Dave SQL SERVER - FIX - The term ‘Invoke-Sqlcmd' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet November 23, 2014Pinal Dave SQL SERVER - FIX - Error: Alter failed for Server ‘Server Name' in Check Integrity task September 2, 2015Pinal Dave 1 comment.
