Sql Server Error 229 Select Permission Denied
'tables' node on SSMS object explorer up vote 1 down vote favorite I have just added a login to test an ETL process on a database and I get the error described below when connect using the account I click on the 'Tables' tab on the object explorer on SSMS on a database with the login set up as a user. Failed to retrieve data for this request (Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoEnum) Additional Information An exception occured while executing sqlserver error: 229, the execute permission was denied on the object 'sp_sqlagent_update_agent_xps' a Transact-SQL statement or batch (Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo) The SELECT permissions was denied on the object 'extended_properties' database 'mssqlsystemresource', schema 'sys'. Turned out that in my haste to grant a user full access to a database I ticked all the boxes under role members including db_denydatareader, db_denydatawriter. share|improve this answer answered Mar 10 '11 at 10:35 Adam Butler 31927 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up usi

Hi, I granted all the rights on the database to the user (db_owner, public, db_datawriter, etc...) However, I didn't grant the "System Administrators" http://www.dbforums.com/showthread.php?1622847-ERROR-229-SELECT-permission-denied-on-object-sysobjects-database role. I also specifically granted the select on those tables (sysobjects and sysindexes) for the user and checked through ‘sp_helprotect sysobjects’ command whether there are no specific revokes for for that user. However, the user is still getting the below error while trying to expand the "Tables" view in the Enterprise Manager. ERROR 229: SELECT permission denied on object 'sysobjects', database 'My_test', owner 'dbo', SELECT permission denied on object 'sysindexes', database 'My_test', owner 'dbo'. Also, the user claims that he can’t seem to do anything with the database, he can’t view any objects, and, when he goes to Query Analyzer, if he tries to run a SELECT query on a table (that he know that this table exists), he gets this error: SELECT permission denied on object 'tblBillingTrans', database 'My_Test', owner 'dbo'. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Based on the error message you experienced, it seems that you have not properly setup/configured your Crystal Report on the PC/server: 1. You must make sure the crystal report installed on the server matches the crystal report version used on your code. 2. Once you have the CR installed on your system, please make sure you set your Crystal Report to operate on LOCAL SERVICE permission. Please check your application pool and make sure it runs under this permission 3. Please make sure the FULL TRUST read and wri
