I have to switch the local SQL Express instance to authenticate using both SQL Server and Windows. However I get this error message: xp_regread() returned error 5, 'Access is denied.' xp_regread() returned error 5, 'Access is denied.' xp_regread() returned error 5, 'Access is denied.' (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 22001) I am not a sysadmin on the instance and need to recover sysadmin access so that I can change this setting. sql-server-2008-r2 share|improve this question edited May 22 '13 at 18:26 Aaron Bertrand 165k18265320 asked May 22 '13 at 16:05 geoff swartz 96931844 No, this has nothing to do with Parallels. When I login and fireup SQL management https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/25342398/SQL-2008-Express-permissions-issues.html studio I connect to the instance using windows authentication. In order to resolve your issue, you can try to login as an administrator. In addition, you can right click the folder where you want to create the database and choose properties at first. Then check the security tab and make sure that you have the write permission to this folder. If it doesn't work, please try to share more information about your issue.
