Also, try to telnet your server on the port it listens to. For example, if your server name is srv1 and it listens on port 4949 use telnet srv1 4949 And, as mentioned in the above post, please post the exact error message from either windows event viewer or from SQL Server Logs that will help further troubleshooting. He

Solved SQL Server 2005 Error: "A socket operation was attempted to an unreachable host" Posted on 2008-02-29 MS SQL Server 2005 Internet Protocols 1 Verified Solution 2 Comments 2,279 Views Last Modified: 2008-03-03 Hi Experts, sql server I really need help on this one. My Computer is XP Pro and I have enabled remote connections in Surface Area Configuration and I can connect to our remote database via SQL Server 2005. My clients PC is Windows Server 2003 for Small Business Server. SQL Server 2005 has been installed as a new instance (on my computer Sql Server is installed as default instance. ). When I try and connect to the same remote sql server error database using the same Server Name, Login and Password, I get: "An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider error, error: 0 - A socket operation was attempted to an unreachable host.) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 10065)" Remote Connections are definetly enabled. I went into the errorlog and saw that SQL Server is listening to port 26721 so I went into Configuration Manager and then Protocols for TCP/IP. I changed TCP Port from 1433 to 26721 in IP1, IP2 and IPAll. I cleared Dynamic Ports. There is no Windows Firewall on. Still get this message. I have restarted the services, rebooted tried everything. Can anybody please help.
