Microsoft Sql Server Native Client 11.0 Sql Server Login Failed For User
Connection - Login Failed For User up vote 11 down vote favorite 2 I have moved my database from an SQL 2005 to a server with SQL 2008. I am now trying to create an ODBC Data Source. I am using "With SQL Server authentication using a login ID and password entered by the user" and have entered my Login and password. The Login is visible in SQL Server Management Studio under Security-> Logins. The login also contains the exact properties db2 sql state = 28000, error code = -4,214 of the same login in my old server. When I hit next after entering the username and password I get: Connection failed: SQLState: '28000' SQL Server Error: 18456 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Login failed for user 'myUser'. After reading this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555332 I realized that the server properties were set to "Windows Authentication Mode" only, but even after changing to "SQL Server and Windows Authentication Mode" I am still having problems connecting. I can connect with my Windows account though. sql-server-2008 sql-server-2005 odbc logins share|improve this question edited Dec 7 '12 at 18:08 asked Dec 7 '12 at 16:11 jpsnow72 246139 Just a note. When you change the Server Authentication from Windows Authentication to Mixed Mode. You'll need to manually enable the SA login if you want it available. Personally I would keep it disabled in your case since you have access through your Windows acount. –Brandon leach Dec 7 '12 at 23:04 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 9 down vote accepted My answer... From my comments: The issue was that the server was set to "Windows Authentication Mode" only. To fix this I Right click the server - > Properties Click "Security" in the left side of the "Server Properties" dialog Changed server Authentication to "SQL Server and Windows Authentication mode" Clicked "OK" Restarted Associated services. At first I forgot to restart the services, so I was still getting the e

The following connection string works fine in my site: "Server=servername; database=mydb; user id= web.account; password=PassW0rd!; Integrated Security=SSPI" However, when I try to set up a DSN (using the 64-bit odbc admin) I get the following error: Connection failed: SQLState: '28000' SQL Server Error: 18456 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Login failed for user 'web.account' Keep in mind, I'm using the same account and password http://stackoverflow.com/questions/27621982/sql-server-login-works-in-a-connection-string-but-fails-in-dsn I use in the connection string (which works). It's weird too because the error occurs right after I click 'Next' on the "How should SQL Server verify the authenticity of the login ID?" page. It seems like the odbc admin does not even try to connect to the server to verify the credentials. What can I check to prove this / How can I fix this? Things I've tried: I have checked the server authentication mode, as proposed in other solutions, and that is set to "SQL Server and Windows Authentication mode", as it should be. I have tried creating both a User and System DSN - both get the same error, this seems like further evidence that it's not trying to connect to the server to check the credentials. I have tried the same DSN creation on multiple servers, all have the same problem. Is it possible the SQL Server is refusing these types of connections? UPDATE 1: The DBA just told me that the web.account is actually a Windows account, not an SQL account. I guess that's why the odbc isn't working, because it doesn't try to connect as a different windows user, only as the current windows user. So now the question is, how do I set up a DSN with a different windows account? Or, is that even possible? sql-server odbc windows-server-2008-r2 dsn share|improve t

Everything works ok for me, but for others it is not. When they click on the table sql server or the report, they get "Connection Failed - SQLState: "28000" SQL Server Error 18456. Login failed for user...." I have read the previous posts on this error and have tried most of them. I am missing something. Under the ODBC connection on the client, I have the User DSN and System DSN set up for both of the databases on the SQL server. I also have the Access database set up under User DSN. The user is set up as a user on the server where microsoft sql server the SQL database resides, with the same permissions that I have. Under the database in Enterprise Manager, the user is set up under "Logins". I have not deleted all of the table links and the ODBC connection, I'm not sure how to do this. The user is able to get into the Access program by unchecking Trusted Connection and typing in her password, but this is a pain. How do I get this to be automatic. I have compared my settings to hers and they seem the same. 0 Question by:sfrisk Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 14 Best Solution bytwoboats No problem. Both of the servers have two different database that will be joined together using SQL Server Agent. However, during this activity SQL Server is throwing a Log In Failed Error. The job failed. The job was invoked by User somedomain\someuser. The last step to run was step 2 [somedatabasename]. The job was requested to start at step 1 [somejobstepname]. Executed as user: NT SERVICE\SQLSERVERAGENT. Login failed for user 'somedomainname\servername'. [SQLSTATE 28000] [Error 18456]. The step failed. Can anyone help me with this? I have searched the internet and some experts suggested that this is due to my user ID (i.e. \kanchan.barua) and server agent user ID (i.e. \SQLSERVERAGENT) being two different user ID. Hence I tried to change from \SQLSERVERAGENT to \kanchan.barua. But it is also showing an error. The error reads: WMI Provider Error. Access is denied. [0x80070005]. How can I solve this error? PS: One thing I forgot to mention. I can normally run a query using both the database in separate server. However whenever try to use server job agent, this connection problem is showing. sql-server sql login share|improve this question asked Mar 15 '14 at 13:33 Sadat Mainuddin 1113 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote Run "SQL Server Configuration Manager"
