The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 2) This is a common error which arises when connecting to SQL Server with Management Studio. This includes different type of error scenarios like (Service--Not Available),(Service-Not Running),(Network Library- Not Enabled),(Fire Wall-Blocking) Etc. Please troubleshoot in systematic manner. Click On start button and type Services.MSC Check whether the SQL Server service has been installed and is running fine. Please check the service whether started or not. If Yes: Next Scenario is Network Libraries Tune. If No Install the SQL Server Engine from the software package and start the service. share|improve this answer edited Jun 22 at 16:20 marc_s 454k938701032 answered Dec 31 '13 at 5:25 Premchand Yelavarthi 174

It also means the account can have a file sharing session without a problem. To solve this issue, please refer to the following thread: 1.Make sure the server name and instance name is correct. If you install the SQL Server as default instance, you shouldn’t use SQLEXPRESS as instance name. 2.Target SQL Server is running 3.Named Pipe is enabled on the server. If not, the SQL server is not listening on the specific pipe name.
