Microsoft Sql Server Error 64 2012
the same SQL2008 SP2 instance as DomainA\Joe, and cannot login to the instance from the same domain member laptop as Joe. If Johnny tries to login to SQL management studio to the same SQL instance from the server(using rdp) it works out fine.

When I do the same thing from https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/6dc64b47-cc64-4942-90f8-242c47eee511/sql-server-management-studio-error-64?forum=sqltools my local machine it fails, giving me the error below - A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the login process. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - The specified network name is no longer available.) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 64) Why does this error happen and how do I fix it ? I am trying to connect via management studio. What I tried so far - Error message: (provider: Shared Memory Provider, error: 0 - No process is on http://stackoverflow.com/questions/19148863/sql-server-can-connect-via-remote-server-but-not-local-machine-why the other end of the pipe.) It does not work for me. As an aside, I already mentioned what I tried in the first 2 lines of my question. But, it went unnoticed. Those two lines suggest that the problem may be in my local system. But, what could the problem be ? sql-server sql-server-2008 sql-server-2008-r2 share|improve this question edited Oct 3 '13 at 0:47 asked Oct 3 '13 at 0:17 Steam 1,94694083 why vote to close this ? –Steam Oct 3 '13 at 0:27 I didn't vote to close, but it's probably because you've shown no effort to solve this yourself. Did you even Google for a solution? Did you try searching here? Have you researched anything at all in an effort to find any information? I don't see anything that would indicate that you have done so. You haven't even indicated how you're trying to connect - is it from code, from SQL Server Management Studio, or some other way? –Ken White Oct 3 '13 at 0:29 What's the server name you were trying to use? –Szymon Oct 3 '13 at 0:48 @KenWhite - I edited the question. Is it okay now ? –Steam Oct 3 '13 at 0:49 @Szymon - a name like GENSERV.dev –Steam Oct 3 '13 at 0:49 | show 2 more comments 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote accepted Here are couple things you can to do troubleshoot this: Check the server name: What server na

Go to the SQL Configuration Manager. (You can refer to the link above for a walk through with screen shots to get there)Expand the SQL Network Configuration and click on the PROTOCOLS nodeRight click on TCP/IP and open up the PROPERTIES panelSelect the IP ADDRESS tabMake sure the values for the IP ADDRESS fields are correct and match the system it is running on.Restart the service, and you should be back in business, I was.On a side note, this is also the same place where lots of people get hung up when setting up remote access to a SQL Server instance.Make sure you fill in the TCP PORT, even if you are using the default 1433.7. Now extract and you should have your content without any errors out of RAR files. If you are still experiencing the issue you can try SQL Server Fix Toolbox https://www.fixtoolbox.com/sq

If so, sometimes they like to detect a protocol and muck it up (esp. if it is an older version of the firmware, and the software you are using is newer). –jgv999 Aug 28 '11 at 0:33 No there isn't such a thing. I could connect once with the same options but just once I don't know what's wrong. –Milad Aug 28 '11 at 0:59 Can you try with an invalid login? Does it say "Login Failed"? –jgv999 Aug 28 '11 at 1:17 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote accepted You need to ensure that the SQL port which is 1433 is open between the web server and e database server. You also need to ensure that the SQL sever is listening for remote connections. This can be cycled in the SQL Server Configurion Tool. share|improve this answer answered Aug 28 '11 at 21:08 mrdenny 25.4k33163 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote Is your server running as a named in
