heterogeneous linked server. i.e. We are going to create a linked server to SYBASE database server from SQL Server environment and get sybase odbc driver then going to query datas from Sybase. First step in heterogeneous linked sybase linked server server is to create a ODBC connection to that RDBMS platform. For creating ODBC connection we need the connect to sybase from sql server management studio ODBC drivers for that RDBMS platform. In this case we need Sybase driver in client machine, this is not included in windows so you need to download it from

Sybase Website. Lets discuss on this step by step Testing Environment Windows 7 SQL Server 2008 Sybase ASE Developer Edition 15.02 Sybase ODBC Driver 3.51 Sybase DBName : sqlarticles (authors table with 4 test records) Implementation Steps Download Sybase ODBC drivers from the link Get Sybase ODBC Driver . Please note from Sybase ASE 15, Sybase will not ship sybase client software the 3rd party DataDirect ODBC driver, Sybase has developed their own ODBC driver and it will be shipped. Install the Sybase driver from the downloaded setup. Once installation completed go to Run> Type odbcad32 and press enter In the ODBC admin window go to System tab as shown below
When you click on Add button a list of ODBC drivers available in the system will be shown, select Adaptive Server Enterprise (this will not be displayed if you havent installed Sybase ODBC Drivers) and then click finish button Now you will be shown with the ODBC driver configuration, all the fields in the window are self explanatory hence fill all the details required (you can also go to other tabs for other ODBC options) and click on Test Connection button to test the ODBC connection. Now another window will pop up to enter the password, just enter the credential and click OK as shown below Now you have created the ODBC connection successfully, the next step is to create a new linked server iup Recent PostsRecent Posts Popular TopicsPopular Topics Home Search Members Calendar cannot create an instance of ole db provider aseoledb for linked server Who's On Home » SQL Server 2008 » SQL Server 2008

We are using a 64bit version of SQL server and need data from Sybase. We bought an OLE DB and a ODBC 64 bit driver for Sybase from OpenLinc, but it is VERY expensive due to the fact http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/Topic740833-391-1.aspx that it is limited to a few simultaneous connections. I admit I haven't looked but there are usually a couple of providers..CEWII Post #744658 hakan.wintherhakan.winther Posted Wednesday, July 1, 2009 3:29 AM SSCrazy Group: General Forum Members Last Login: Thursday, August 25, 2016 7:13 AM Points: 2,674, Visits: 597 Elliott (6/30/2009)It aint pretty but you could seperate the process up some and mo
criteria in the where clause. Queries that return 1 row and execute in less than a second using a native Sybase connection take 40 seconds to run using the linked server OLEDB connection. If I use http://www.bigresource.com/MS_SQL-Linked-Server-Connection-to-Sybase-VoC9YGl5.html ints in the where clause performance is almost exactly the same between native and linked connections. Any ideas??? If I test linked server connection it gives me linked server succeeded message but as I visually drill down the catalogs though it lists all of them they show as blank like such but the item count is correct as we have that many catalogs in our Sybase. Another funny thing that I recognized is that when I perform and OPENQUERY it gives me the correct amount of rows and still it is showing empty strings, like such I dont have any idea what is happening here and my only clue is this error message when I drill down inside those blank databases. This exception prompts. Failed to retrieve data for this request.
