the site in IIS .7.5. I can connect and see the data in Dreamweaver with this connection string: "Provider=SQLNCLI11;Server=LUIS-PC\SQLEXPRESS;Database=Narcom;Integrated Security = SSPI;" in IIS it is a default web site in the DefaultAppPool anonymous and windows authentication are on with Extended protection I want to use windows auth for development but will create a service account in SQL for the live sql server odbc connection string windows authentication app. I can login to SQL Mgmt Studio with windows auth. Any suggestions on how to trouble shoot this? It's been a while since I wrote a classic asp app and set up was trivial back then. To use SQL Logins you have to Change first the SQL Server to "Mixed Mode" = "Window and SQL Server Logins"; see Change Server Authentication ModeOlaf Helper [ Blog] [ Xing] [ MVP]

The login failed. This means the used login don't have permissions to access the database. You are using Windows Authentication and so the Service account of IIS is used to logon. Today has been my first attempt ever at this, and I have spent hours and http://stackoverflow.com/questions/13796097/asp-classic-connection-to-sql-server-2008-error-80004005-login-failed hours researching to no avail. The best I can do is get a failed login. Here's the connection string (one of many tried): Provider=SQLOLEDB;Data Source=mycompname\sqlexpress;Initial Catalog=theDBName;Integrated Security=SSPI The error: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80004005' Cannot open database "theDBName" requested by the login. The login failed. What I want: Just anything that will connect a database to my ASP Classic page (I normally work in LAMP)! This is not for a live site, so for the time being, that's my only consideration. Just getting it done. :( Any ideas? sql-server-2008 asp-classic share|improve this question edited Dec 10 '12 at 6:48 marc_s 454k938701032 asked Dec 10 '12 at 6:34 Truthy 62 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote accepted You've specified Integrated Security=SSPI, which means that the user owning the process making the connection must be allowed access to the database. That means that the web service must have access. Have you done that? It might be easier if you create a named user, give it a passw
