We have a index defragment job set up on the database which runs DBCC INDEXDEFRAG on weekly basis on the database. Its been failing for some time with the error - Object ID 0, index ID 0, page ID (6:2932957). The PageId in the page header = (0:0). encountered several times already, since let's say, a month ago, and I'm looking for some advice. We're running a MS SQL Server 2000 (SP3) Enterprise Edition on a 4 proc, 4 GB Windows 2003 Server, connected to a SAN (where my databases reside). The problem is this: when I try to change something in database design (add a new table, add a column, change column type) in any database on that server, I get errors: Error: 823, Severity: 24, State: 2 I/O error (bad page ID) detected during read at offset 0x0000005df94000 in file '...database.mdf'. Error: 3314, Severity: 21, State: 4 Error while undoing logged operation in database 'database'. Error at log record ID (19240:16:207). Error: 9001, Severity: 21, State: 1 The log for database 'database' is not available. Error: 3314, Severity: 21, State: 5 Error while undoing logged operation in database 'database'. Error at log record ID (19221:2418:1). The database then goes through recovery process, and then everything is fine, and I can do that modification that failed for the first time. Of course, nothing in Error logs before this error. DBCC CHECKDB shows no errors. I've checked the SAN, with diskcheck utilities, nothing. It happened on different databases. When it happened on a 1.5GB database, the recovery failed, and the database was marked suspect, but after removing the flag and restarting the server, she went through recovery process nicely, and everything was fine! Can it be RAM? Can it be bug in SQL Server? Any suggestion would be very appreciated.. Thank You, Irene AnswerYeah it seams to be the problem with hardware. It gives error while reading/writing the database file. This I/O happens in conjunction with various system commands. Microsft has given this error symptoms and has some resolution available for the same. Kindly go through it.
