Saw this file location in process monitor running as the service attempted to run C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.VC80.CRT_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.4053_x-ww_e69679\MSVCP80.dll 4. opened thatdirectoryand noticed file size and date forMSVCP80.dll was different then the one in SQL setup and install directory. So I replaced it The bad msvcp80.dll file is 542KB 7/12/2009 The good file msvcp80.dll 536 KB 10/14/2005 Marked as answer by Jeff_1 Monday, March 05, 2012 4:35 PM Edited by Jeff_1 Monday, March 05, 2012 4:53 PM Monday, March 05, 2012 4:31 PM Reply | Quote All replies 0 Sign in to vote You wll find the reason in the SQL Server errorlog file (file named "errorlog").Tibor Karaszi, SQL Server MVP | web | blog Sunday, March 04, 2012 8:50 AM Reply | Quote 0 Sign in
16, 20150 Share 0 0 The other day I came across a very common but intriguing scenario of SQL Server service NOT starting. Initially when I came across this issue, I felt that this would not take much of my time but interestingly it did not turn sql server error 1053 service timely fashion out as I thought! This was actually the SQL Server resource which was not

coming ONLINE. As usual the DBA said NOTHING changed, it just happened!! One of the first things we normally do is
The Request Failed Or The Service Did Not Respond In A Timely Fashion Sql Server 2008
to start the service from the SQL Server Configuration Manager/Services console so that we can isolate the issue. In this case we found that the service was failing to start with the below errors:- https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/58b525bb-a943-4ecb-9184-9257db017670/sql-server-service-start-error-1053?forum=sqlkjappmsmgmt -------------- TITLE: Services -------------- Windows could not start the SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) service on Local Computer. Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely Fashion. Button: OK ------------- Generic error, you don’t expect much from the GUI anyways!! Went for the SQL Server Errorlogs and Application/System Event viewer logs. We did not find the Errorlog created in the SQL Server folder nor https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/techreflections/2015/05/16/oh-not-again-sql-server-service-is-not-starting/ did any errors get logged in the Application/System logs. Commonly, in such scenarios, the start-up parameters are goofed up but in this case it was not. So the next logical step was to start the service in the command prompt in console mode:- C:\Windows\system32>"C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.R2\MSSQL\Binn\sqlservr.exe" -sR2 –c _ It did show any message indicating that the service in not even initialising. It appeared that it was sort of in a hung state. Strange!! Then I pulled out the next tool from my toolkit: - PROCESS MONITOR a.k.a PROCMON (I hope most of you get the reason why I put that in CAPS for those of you who did not ..read on) So I collected a PROCMON while running the service in command prompt. I filter it on SQLServr.exe and here is what I find. I see that SQL Server accesses the ERRORLOG file but continues to perform a delete operation on files like ERRORLOG.321234533, ERRORLOG.321234532, ERRORLOG.321234531..Why would SQL do this and why these weird files names?? Scratching my head for some time and looking at the PROCMON output for some more time I figured it out. I see that before SQL attempts this file deletion it accesses the below registry key Event Class: Regis

Even this information I got from net. When attempting to tart a service, you may receive above error. The resolutions are 1) Depending on your system setup, you may try to run the service under Local System or the administrator account. 2) make sure dependencies is running. 3) Make sure the related files have correct permission. For example, if you can't start the Task Schedule service, you may need to check the if the %SystemRoot%\Schedlgu.txt file has the Read-Only attribute. If yes, you may want to assign write permission.try this and let us know. Thanks,Mahesh Topic Reply to Topic Printer Friendly Jump To: Select Forum General SQL Server Forums New to SQL Server Programming New to SQL Server Administration Script Library Data Corruption Issues Database Design and Application Architecture SQL Server 2012 Forums Transact-SQL (2012) SQL Server Administration (2012) SSIS and Import/Export (2012) Analysis Server and Reporting Services (2012) Replication (2012) Availability Groups and DR (2012) Other SQL Server 2012 Topics SQL Server 2008
