Every time I try running it fails with an error at the very end of the installation. It ends with an error "The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 29506". I tried looking for a solution everywhere. http://www.techrepublic.com/forums/discussions/error-29506-while-installing-sql-server-management-studio-express/ Some suggested running the file (here its an .msi file) from the command prompt with Administrator privileges. I tried that and it is still giving the same error. Thansk a lot. Running it from CMD(as an Administrator) worked for me. :) 0Votes Share Flag Collapse - Did not work for me, wait - yes it did! by rclowe · 7 years ago In reply to Thanks Since I was logged in as an Administrator I did not see the value in actually right-clicking the Command Prompt and selecting Run As Admin... Yet that was all it took. Too simple for a learned loremaster...Thanks again - sorry I doubted. FYI I am installing SQLServer2005_SSMSEE_x64.msi and I am installing on Windows 7.Thanks 0Votes Share Flag C

while installing SP2MSI (s) (D8!A0) [21:07:09:062]: Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 -- Error 29506. SQL Server Setup failed to modify security permissions on file C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data\ for user Administrator. To proceed, verify that the account and domain running SQL Server Setup exist, that the account running SQL Server Setup has administrator privileges, and that exists on the destination drive.Tried running install with a domain account and local account with same results.Based on the error message, I checked permission on the drive and still received the same error.Followed resolution based on KB 916766, this did not resolve the error.Only possible resolution I found was to disable UAP, reboot and retry the install. This will be done as a last resort, but any other suggestion will be appreciated. Many Thanks http://support.microsoft.com/kb/916766This was the solution. Pays to read the resolution carefully Went through ALL the files and finally found the ones without proper permissions Check whether the account(admin ID) u r using to install SP2 has sysadmin privilege in SQL We have the same problem. To proceed, verify that the account and domain running SQL Server Setup exist, that the account running SQL Server Setup has administrator privileges, and that exists on the destination drive. This account has sysadmin privilege and is a member of the Administrators group on this computer. I checked this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/916766, but it doesn't help. EDIT: Today is it all OK, hotfix successfully applied, but I have nothing to do with this issue from yesterda till now. Yesterday - I only added sysadmin privileges to this account, but immediately it doesn't help. Time is medicine? Previous Page | SQL Server Setup & Upg
