The ironic thing is, there is no password. Steps are: Right click on the Service in the Services mmc Click Properties Click on the Log On tab The password fields will appear to have entries in them... Blank out both Password fields Click "OK" This should re-grant access to the service and it should start up again. Weird? NOTE: if the problem comes back after a few hours or days, then you probably have a group policy which is overriding your settings and it's coming and taking the right away again. share|improve this answer edited Mar 20 '15 at 11:39 answered Dec 13 '13 at 15:12 JLo 1,41011021 3 This answer worked for me. How can I resolve the error 'An error 1069 - (The service did not start due to a logon failure)' for SQL Server? Dec 23, 1999 Neil Pike | Windows IT Pro EMAIL Tweet Comments 17 Advertisement A. SQL Server is just like any other NT service in that it can be defined to run using the credentials of an NT user account. It can also run http://windowsitpro.com/windows/how-can-i-resolve-error-error-1069-service-did-not-start-due-logon-failure-sql-server under localsystem account, but if you are getting this error then you must have defined a user account. Related: Automate detection of Logon failure in a domain environment Go to control panel/services. Choose the mssqlserver service (or SQLExecutive/SQLAgent if they are failing) and then choose startup. Check what NT account is being used. Make sure that the password is correct and check with NT user manager that the account has not been deleted or expired. If the account details seem ok, then check that it has "logon as a service" user right (again with user manager). If this doesn't resolve the issue then try logging on locally to the NT box with the same NT account and see what error(s) you get. Although there could be variety of reasons for the failure, here we try to document most common ones and add more to the list going forward.
