Reply to Topic Printer Friendly Author Topic jlm159 Starting Member USA 3 Posts Posted-06/21/2011: 11:13:16 I am setting up a new domain controller that is running Server 2008. We run an MRP software that installs SQL Server 2005 Express on the computer that stores the database (the http://www.sqlteam.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=162101 DC in our case). I am trying to get it setup and am having trouble getting it functional for all computers on the network. I set up the database and brought over a snapshot from the old server, so there is good data in the database. Currently, it works on the domain controller itself, but when I try to connect from another machine, I cannot set up the ODBC Connection. I get the following error: Connection failed:SQLState: '01000'SQL Server Error: 53[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionOpen(Connect()).Connection failed:SQLState: '08001'SQL Server Error: 17[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Drive][DBNETLIB]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.I have tried to match the settings in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express to those on the old server machine. I did the same for the SQL Server Configuration Manager.I am not sure what to try from here so I would appreciate any help.ThanksJim Manz russell Pyro-ma-ni-yak USA 5072 Posts Posted-06/21/2011: 11:35:20 Make sure that remote connections are enabled.Make sure firewall isn't blocking.Make sure users
the previous tutorial. After clicking Next on the SQL login information screen, ODBC manager will try to connect to http://dba.fyicenter.com/faq/sql_server_2/Getting_Connection_failed_Error_on_DSN_Creation.html the SQL Server with the login information you provided. After a period http://stackoverflow.com/questions/16445243/cannot-connect-to-remote-sql-database-with-sql-server-management-console-error of waiting time, you may get error message box saying that: Connection failed: SQLState: '01000' SQL Server Error: 53 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB] ConnectionOpen(Connect()). Connection failed: SQLState: '08001' SQL Server Error: 17 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB] SQL Server does not exist or access denied. See sql server the picture below: Three possible reasons for the failing: Wrong server name - You provided an incorrect server name. SQL Server not configured to take a network connection - You need to check the SQL Server configuration. Wrong login name or password - You provided incorrect login name or password. The first and third sql server error reasons are easy to validate and correct. The second reason requires further investigation.
