the SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) service on local computer. Error 1053 up vote 7 down vote favorite 2 I am running Windows 7 32 bit and I have IIS, Visual Studio 2008, 2010 installed. I am haunted by this error in SQL Server 2008 which is: Windows could not start the SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) service on local computer. Error 1053: The service did not respond to error installing sql server database engine services instance features the start or control request in a timely fashion I have Googled and visited many other sites. I have tried following: changed Account permission to Local System Account and no luck. uninstalled and re-installed: no luck. checked the port in Client Protocols and it is set 1433. added Network Service account to the Microsoft SQL Server folder in program files. I cant check the log file because it doesn't exist in the LOG folder of MS SQL folder. I have changed registry information from fix articles about this issue but no luck from those sites. It is really annoying because i installed SQL Server 2005 Express earlier and I got the same error message so that's why I uninstalled this and decided to give SQL Server 2008 Express a go and I receive the same error. This is really slowing me down because I have developed a lot of the web pages in my website and now I want to add functionality to the site and I need SQL Server and this has really stopped me from working. Can someone help please? I really need to get this fixed i have tried everything that

I'm just a guy trying sql server 2012 to run SQL Server on my local machine to build some simple .NET applications for learning and practice. I am experiencing this same problem referenced in this post (Installing SQL Server 2012 Express fails with error " Could not find the Database Engine startup handle."), but it is with SQL Server Express 2014. I've tried the following things that did not fix the problem: verified SSL is turned off deleted the MSSQL$SQLEXPRESS folders under the Users folder changed to built-in accounts in SQL Configuration Manager ran the install file as Administrator selected the default NT Service\MSSQL$SQLEXPRESS account during installation (note that I was prohibited from selecting any other accounts) Per the comment below the selected answer (from Frederic), I tried to follow this path (Computer properties, advanced parameters, user profile parameters, suppressing net service\mssql profiles) but it didn't exist as listed. The closest thing I could find had only user accounts (not virtual accounts) tried using mixed authentication during setup The link to MSDN in the answer points to a resource that lists some configuration data, but it doesn't tell me where to change the service account permissions. I think this is what I need to do based on what I've read s

My intention is to just let my local windows user be authenticated but I am not totally sure how to do that. In the connect dialog I'm writing: Server type: Database Engine Server name: (local) Authentication: Windows Authentication My first question would be if that is what I should connect to? When I try to connect I get this error message: TITLE: Connect to Server ------------------------------ Cannot connect to (local). ------------------------------ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 2) For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&EvtSrc=MSSQLServer&EvtID=2&LinkId=20476 ------------------------------ BUTTONS: OK ------------------------------ I went to the URL there displayed and it just basically says "be sure SQL server is running". I think it is but I am not totally sure. I've disabled the Windows Firewall (this is Windows 7 7100 x86). I've also changed the log on system in the SQL Server Configuration Manager but it seems it's not a problem of logging in but not even be able to open the socket to it. On that same tool I've enabled all the protocols on "SQL Server Network Configuration" -> "Protocols for SQLEXPRESS" with no luck. I run out of ideas. What else can I try? sql-server sql-server-2008 share|improve this question asked M
