Server Support ContentSeptember 17, 20061 Share 0 0 Starting with Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 4 (SP4), SQL Server helps detect stalled fatal error 823 occurred sql server 2008 and stuck conditions for database I/O reads and writes. When an I/O operation has been pending for 15 seconds or fatal error 823 sql server 2012 longer, SQL Server logs the following message in the SQL errorlogs:
SQL Server has encountered %d occurrence(s) of I/O requests taking longer than %d seconds to complete on fileSql Server Error 824
[%ls] in database [%ls] (%d). The OS file handle is 0x%p. The offset of the latest long I/O is: %#016I64x.
The important thing to understand over here is that this message is reported by SQL Server but is not necessarily an issue with SQL Server. This is also applicable to SQL 2005. Identifying the Cause This sql server error 21 problem can be caused system performance issues, hardware errors, firmware errors, device driver problems, or filter driver intervention in the IO process. It's SQL Server 2000 SP3 on Windows 2000. We had hardware problems on one of the disks in the array the data files are on, which sql server error precipitated a number of errors in the Application Event log:Event ID 17052,MSSQLSERVER,Error: 823, Severity: 24, State: 2 I/O error (torn page) detected during read at offset 0x000002ed448000 in file 'E:\SQLDATA2\XDB_Data.MDF'.Running DBCC CHECKDB resulted in the following:Server: Msg 8928, Level 16, State 1, Line 1Object ID 1901458048, index ID 0: Page (1:1534500) could not be processed.
