How can I provide enough information? –bdkhsn Dec 23 '13 at 10:01 can you check if your SQL Errorlog file has become read only? I just had this 2 weeks ago and still looking for a root cause. C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.n\MSSQL\LOG\ERRORLOG. Btw, this is based on the assumtion that infact your SQL Server was running happily and nobody or nothing has changed anything to the system. Because the error message itself is kind of general..;-) –Edward Dortland Dec 23 '13 at 10:12 | show 2 more comments 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote accepted CHeck for another error in the event log that is t
SERVER - Event 17058 - initerrlog: Could not Open Error Log File August 5, 2016Pinal DaveSQL1 commentIf you have ever interacted with me or taken my services, http://blog.sqlauthority.com/2016/08/05/sql-server-event-17058-initerrlog-not-open-error-log-file/ you would notice that I always ask for ERRORLOG in almost all of my contact with my client. Once of my friend contacted me and when I https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/23951723/SQL-Service-will-not-start-I-am-getting-an-error-17058.html asked for ERRORLOG, he informed that there is no ERRORLOG file and SQL is not getting started. I suggested him that we should analyze event log sql server for further details, after interestingly, we found the following details in the event 17058 about initerrlog: Could not Open Error Log File.Log Name: Application Source: MSSQLSERVER Event ID: 17058 Task Category: Server Level: Error Description: initerrlog: Could not open error log file ". Operating system error = 3(The system cannot find the path the sql server specified.). We finally found that the error occurs due to the insufficient privilege of SQL Server Service Account in the Log directory: E:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL12.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\LogHere is the fix of the issue.Start SQL Server Configuration manager.Click to select ‘SQL Server Services' from the left menu options. On the right panel, right click on ‘SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER)' and click ‘Properties'. You may want to choose correct service.Click ‘Startup Parameters' tab. Note the location after -e parameter.Browse the Log location " E:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL12.MSSQLSERVER \MSSQL\Log".Right click on the folder "Log" and click Properties and then to visit to "Security" tab. Now, check SQL Server service account permission on this folder and give proper access to this folder. Now, Restart the SQL Server service. If you face the same error again, try to change highly privileged service account like "Local System".After giving permission, we were able to start the SQL Service. Have you faced a similar error?Reference: Pinal Dave (http://blog.sqlau

But all of a sudden when I rebooted my server I got this error: "The SQL Server (TESSI2005) service terminated with service-specific error 17058 (0x42A2)." Everything that I have read says that SQL is corrupt and I need to reinstall. Is there something else I can do to keep from re-installing my SQL.
