Join them; it only takes a minute: Sign up Error connecting to new sql server up vote -2 down vote favorite I am facing problem in registering new sql server instance SQLEXPRESS in SQL Management studio 2008. when I try to connect or test the server error message appear, I am also facing facing same problem in any new server irrespective of the name, except the main one which was created at the time of installation and which was named same as my user ID in windows.. It is the default instance. Setup completed with no errors, but when I open Management studio I cannot connect to My ne DB. The Login fails when I test it in the registration dialogue. (It will login with the current credentials with which windows server is logged in )For SQL authentication , you have to use just the username (like sa ).Thanks
