via DSN-less ODBC to SQL Server 2005 Express using SQL Server authentication. This works fine on all their XP machines but they are having connection issues with the Windows 7 named pipes provider could not open a connection to sql server 67 machines. After the Server has been rebooted they can usually connect and stay connected for a few hours but then get the following error: --------------------------- Microsoft SQL Server Login --------------------------- Connection failed: SQLState: '01000' SQL Server Error: 67 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionOpen (Connect()). Connection failed: SQLState: '08001' SQL Server Error: 17 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SQL Server does not exist or sql server error 11 access denied. They then need to get everyone out of the system and reboot the server again. Restarting SQL Server doesn't fix the problem. On the Server we are using the default dynamic port allocation, with TCPIP as the protocol. We have also tried turning off the firewall on the Windows 7 machines. The same errors occured when we used Windows Authentication instead of SQL Server Authentication. SQL Server 2005 Express is installed on the Server on a SBS 2003 network. All the PC's are logged onto the domain, and the DSN-less ODBC connection is set up using the following: "Driver={SQL Server};Server=ssss;Database=CarerData;UID=uuuu;PWD=pppp" where ssss=Server\Instance; uuuu=User ID; pppp=Password. Please help - we are running out of ideas. 67 and 17 from windows 2008 server Want to Advertise Here? Solved SQL Server Error 67 and 17 from windows 2008 server Posted on 2010-10-27 MS SQL Server 2008 MS Access 1 Verified https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/ffdcf726-7148-40b3-94cd-8a46850f0981/problem-connecting-to-sql-server-from-access-under-windows-7?forum=sqldataaccess Solution 7 Comments 13,357 Views Last Modified: 2012-05-10 To make a long story short, I had to reinstall an instance of SQL on our server. It is a Windows 2003 box running Microsoft SQL 2008. It has two instances on it. We have a mix of XP and Windows 7 machines. I have an access program that uses SQL through an ODBC connection. This program is working https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/26574909/SQL-Server-Error-67-and-17-from-windows-2008-server.html fine on all machines except one. This one machine is our remote desktop server. All of our remote uses connect to it. I get the following error when I launch the access program. Connection failed: SQLState: '01000' SQL Server Error: 67 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionOpen (Connect()). Connection failed: SQLState: '08001' SQL Server Error: 17 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SQL Server does not exist or access denied. When I test the ODBC connection in the administrator tools, it says tests completed successfully. This machine is able to connect using ODBC to the other database instance running on the same server. This machine also didn't have any problems connecting before I had to reinstall the instance. The remote desktop server is running Windows 2008 R2 enterprise server. Anyone have any ideas? 0 Question by:ree0082 Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google Best Solution byree0082 Wow, I found the solution. The remote desktop server is running Win 2008 R2 Enterprise 64 bit. I needed to use the 32bit ODBC utility. Which is located %systemroot%\sysWOW64 and is called odbcad32.exe. the test database that resides on the sql server. While doing this from aPC on the network I receive the following error message:" sql server does not exist or access denied." I know the PC has access to the windows server itself because the access back end database is located there. Can anyone please tell me what to look for. Thanks,Dave Jeff B. Oct 19 2011, 02:13 PM DaveWhen you set up that instance of SQL-Server, did you give yourself permissions on the table? red68 Oct 19 2011, 05:34 PM I should have been clearer. I cannot get to the database to select any tables. Otried to create a dsn from a PC on the network and receive the error message during dsn creation. I tried using the dsn I created when I first upsized and get the same error. I cannot find or access the sql server from a networked PC. I originally upsized from the windows server itself because that is where the MS access back end database is located. Jeff B. Oct 19 2011, 05:50 PM I should have been clearer ... wasn't suggesting that you reach the instance of SQL-Server via Acccess. I was asking about whether the SQL-Server instance was created with the permissions, and/or whether permissions were added/updated afterwards. That isn't something you do from Access, as I recall... red68 Oct 19 2011, 06:39 PM The actual message box I receive is titled Microsoft SQL Server Loginand contains the following:onnection failed:sqlstate:'01000'sql server error:53[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionOpen (Connect()).connection failed:sqlstate:'08001'SQl Server:17[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SQL server does not exist or access denied. When I installed SQL server I accepted the defaults. nothing has been changed. vtd Oct 19 2011, 06:47 PM 1. Which SQL version did you installed (2000/2005/2008 and MSDE/Express/Standard/Enterprise)?. Which Network Protocols did you enable for the SQL Server instance?3. Did you specify one of the enabled Network Protocols as the Client Protocol to use when you tried to set up the DSN on
