and trying to encrypt traffic between the client and the Data Source. The client in this case will be the Data Management Gateway. While we are using Power BI, this is a great example of just a regular connectivity issue. This is not a Power BI specific issue. We would get a failure in a different application as well, such as Management Studio. They sql server error 772 were using the Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server as the provider. This is a really old provide and we should move to the .NET Provider or SQL Server Native Client if possible. Although depending on how you pulled information into Excel, that may be the provider listed and we need to match that as I’ve described in other blogs. One of the reasons I recommend moving off of it is due to the error message itself. The OLE DB Provider error is fairly generic and not overly helpful. With the .NET Provider and SQL Server Native Client, the messaging has been updated and can give you more details. Here is what the error is from the SQL Server Native Client. SSL Provider: The certificate chain was issued by an authority that is not trusted. This is due to the certificate that SQL Server is presenting. Based on the information in the certificate, and the certificate is invalid. This can happen for multiple reasons. In this case the error indicates that it was because we don’t trust the certificate, which is a fairly specific error versus the generic error

I can also use SQL Server Management Studio and connect to that SQL Server. But for http://stackoverflow.com/questions/29637713/unable-to-connect-to-sql-server-2008-using-odbc-connection-via-system-dsn-on-win some reason when I try to connect using the ODBC Data Source Administrator to set up a DSN I get the following error. Connection Failed: SQLState: '01000' SQL Error: 1 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionOpen (SECCreateCredentials()). Connection failed: SQLState: '08001' SQL Error: 18 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SSL Security error I can't seem to find anything about this specifically and wondering if anyone out there is familiar with a this problem. I would add that neither the client nor the server enforce encryption so its a little confusing to me that I would be getting an ssl related error. sql-server-2008 odbc windows-server-2012 share|improve this question edited Apr 15 '15 at 4:52 marc_s 454k938711033 asked Apr 14 '15 at 21:28 Bastyon 142212 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote accepted After turning on ODBC logging got the event message A fatal error occurred while creating an SSL client credential. But the issue is a bit different. The environment had changed from Windows 2000 to Windows 2003. The SQL DB Server machine also got changed from Windows 2000 to Windows 2003. Now we got an application which actually imports data into the DBServer database. When the application is manually invoked and run after filling in the text boxes with necessary information import was successful. But when the same application is invoked using a batch script file, the application is started and all the parameters are filled in the text boxes of the application. But import doesnt happen. We get two types of error at different times. First one is ----------- 2006\06\06 11:56:09 General SQL error. [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SSL Security error [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionOpen (SECDoClientHandshake()). Alias: PRODUS Second one is ------------- 2006\06\26 06:52:56 Read failure. [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SSL Security error [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionWrite (SECEncryptData()). Alias: PRODUS From your discussion I understand some secure connection request is trying to establish from client. But if that is the case why should it work when manually invoked and why shouldnt it work when invoked with a batch.
