ODBC is a database API based on the Call Level Interface (CLI) API definition published by the standards organizations X/Open and ISO/CAE. ODBC applications can access data in many of today's leading database management systems (DBMSs) by using ODBC drivers written to access those DBMSs. The application calls the ODBC API functions using a standard ODBC SQL syntax, then the ODBC driver makes any necessary translations to send the statement to the DBMS and presents the results back to the application. This paper describes how application programmers using the ODBC API can optimize access to Microsoft® SQL Server® when using the Microsoft SQL Server ODBC driver. The paper also discusses issues commonly raised by customers who have called Microsoft S

two weeks now and i am desperate for some help as i judt dont know where to turn and when i ask my other expert friends they do https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms811006.aspx not have any idea. Here is some background: The Database / Server / Network We are running a fairly small database which is about 400mb in size. The server is SBS2008 with SQL Server 2008 and exchange (6 mailboxes) on it. The server is an I7 920 with 16GB of DDR3 Ram which is ultilised at only 70% https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/484427b7-b7fc-4ae3-a52e-d6823b9ae1b2/sql-server-odbc-timeout-agh?forum=smallbusinessserver during busy times while the CPU is being use at 20% at busy times. 1.5TB of storage space in a 4 Drive 500gb RAID5 setup. All clients are running on Gigabit LAN (with Gigabit switch, ect) and are running AMD 9650 Quad Cores with 2GB DDR2 Ram. Only about 150gb of HDD space is used out of the 1.5tb. The Problem Everything on the server works perfectly, the hardware is a little over a year old and has been running great. In-fact everything works and has been working great up untiltwo weeks ago. Basically, when the user on the database application prints an invoice, and the query is run to fetch the invoice information, the machine will Hang for 30 seconds and have the Error [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Timeout expired. This is intermitent however as sometimes it can print within 20 seconds and print the invoice fine. 7/10 attempts however will see the error and a blank invoice printed (because no data was returned). Everything else works. I can access the serve

"Connectivity error: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Timeout expired" "S1T00" The confusing thing here is that our stack dump says that the SQL code it is executing when the timeout occurrs - is very simple: SELECT @@TRANCOUNT AS TranCount or sometimes... BEGIN timeout expired in TRANSACTION Our client says that the load on the database server at the time that these errors occur, is not overwhelming. What could possibly cause those simple statements to timeout? I believe the timeout setting is fairly short (between 1 and 5 seconds)... but still, SELECT @@TRANCOUNT should be instantaneous. Any ideas? sql-server odbc timeout foxpro share|improve this question asked Jun 3 '10 at 23:05 Clinemi 49451427 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote It may be driver-dependent, but I think the ODBC timeout may be handled by the client. This means that any network delays or even slight server hiccups caused by anything from a virus scanner to miscellaneous processes could easily cause a 1 or 2 second delay. So if your timeout is actually 1 second, it doesn't seem surprising that you might get timeout errors. It seems that even 5 seconds is a bit on the low side for a reasonable timeout. This is assuming that the client and server are not on the same physical machine. share|improve this answer answered Jun 3 '10 at 23:14 Mark Wilkins 33.6k43786 You mi

Last month also, it worked well. but this month, I have an problem while executing one query. it is showing the below error_ODBC --call failed.[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Timeout expired (#0)I just some analysis and found that there is a problem with the table which has 3000 records. This error is coming when we try to filter the column InvYear =2009. It is working fine for the filter InvYear=2008 and all others. It is only giving the problem for 2009. Why it is giving the above error only for that condition. Last month also this query worked well. Is there any thing I need to check for the data. Any wrong data like NULLs or empty spaces causes this problem?I am attaching screen shot of the table and error to get an Idea to you. It's very urgent.I analysed the problem and found that the table I mentioned is not the table in SQL Server 2005. It is a VIEW which is having another complex queries. The data is also around 150000 records. But this worked of February month, but not working for March month. I didn't exactly unde
