The remote computer should be able to see the SQL server ( Firewall shouldnt be blocking the connection) 2. Make sure the remote connections are enabled for the SQL server 3. Right protocols should be enabled 4.The name of the SQL server is correct (try to include the fully qualified name ) with proper port number specified if SQL server is not running on the default port 5.Try to ping the server and telnet the SQL portThanks, Leks Marked as answer by Alex Feng (SQL)Moderator Friday, October 01, 2010 9:22 AM Thursday, September 23, 2010 10:26 PM Reply | Quote Answerer All replies 0 Sign in to vote Is it a named instance? Here's what's going on. I've got a server, which I'm calling MYSERVER, running Microsoft SQL Server Express 2005. Right on this server itself, I've got an ODBC connection set up http://serverfault.com/questions/82007/how-do-i-get-this-sql-server-odbc-connection-working pointing at itself, and that already works perfectly. I log in using SQL Server Authentication (not Windows authentication), and it's set up like this: Like I said, that one works. But next, I've got another computer which is on a totally different domain/not on the intranet, that needs to access this same SQL Server hosted on MYSERVER. Because it's on a different domain, it doesn't recognize the name "MYSERVER"; I have to point it at the IP address of MYSERVER, which we'll say is 123.456.789.012. But the ODBC connection doesn't seem to work there. I tried setting it up like this: This doesn't work. When I put in the username and password and press Next, it stalls for a good 10 to 20 seconds, and then finally comes back with the following error: Connection failed: SQLState: '01000' SQL Server Error: 1326 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionOpen (Connect()). Connection failed: SQLState: '08001' SQL Server Error: 17 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SQL Server does not exist or access denied. If I try the same thing, but change the "server" from 123.456.789.012\SQLEXPRESS to just plain old 123.456.789.012, I get a different error: Connection failed: SQLState: '01000' SQL Server Error: 14 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Dri

ODBC Connection Issues Using 64-Bit Windows Problem When attempting to use an ODBC data source in Iguana on a http://www.interfaceware.com/manual/odbc_64.html 64-bit Windows machine, you may encounter the following error: ODBC Error: [Microsoft][ODBC Driver http://www.sqlteam.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=112862 Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified. Symptoms This error only occurs when attempting to use a channel that uses the ODBC data source. To reproduce this error: Set up Iguana on a Windows 64-bit machine. It should run normally. Set up an ODBC data sql server source. To learn how using MS SQL Server as an example, see Setting Up an ODBC Data Source For MS SQL Server. Create a new channel that uses that data source. You should encounter the error message shown above when you try to run the channel, or view the logs. Solution The error message itself indicates that the data source was sql server error not found. The error occurs at this point because the data source was created using the 64-bit ODBC Administrator tool, and Iguana cannot find the sources made by that tool. To fix this issue: Set up an ODBC connection using the 32-bit ODBC Administrator tool located in the following directory: %SystemRoot%\SysWow64\odbcad32.exe On a default install, this tool is located in the following directory: C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe Create a new channel that uses the data source you created using the ODBC Administrator tool. The error message should no longer appear. Did you know? The 64-bit version of Windows includes two ODBC Administrator tools: 64-bit ODBC Administrator tool - Invoked from the Control Panel to manage user DSNs and system DSNs that are used by 64-bit processes. 32-bit ODBC Administrator tool - Invoked directly from the SysWoW64 folder to manage user DSNs and system DSNs that are used by WOW64 processes. iNTERFACEWARE Products Manual > Installing and Using Iguana > Working With a Database > Database Troubleshooting > ODBC Connection Issues Using 64-Bit Windows © iNTERFACEWARE™ Inc. Error number is 3151. This error is in ACCESS 2007 and the tables are linked to SQL Server 2005 database tables. This error occurs randomly but it appears quite frequently. Basically, this happens if a series of queries are executed in MS access. Usually, the first query executes fine and while executing the 2nd one, it bombs. Its sporadic. Sometimes, the 1st and the 2nd queries execute just fine but bombs on the 3rd one. I did google on this and tried couple of resolutions but none of them worked. I have setup a odbc datasource for the database in SQL Server 2005. What could be causing this error? MS ACCESS 2007 and SQL Server 2005 are on one machine (locally on a developement machine). Please let me know if you need more details. Your help is appreciated! Thanks! rum23 Yak Posting Veteran 77 Posts Posted-10/19/2008: 18:11:40 Anybody???
