I can connect to it through other computers, locally and remotely, perfectly fine, but for some reason my desktop gives http://stackoverflow.com/questions/14970770/pre-login-handshake-error-connecting-to-sql-server-2012-through-vs-2012 me this lovely error: "A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the pre-login handshake. (provider: SSL Provider, error: 0 - The wait operation timed out.) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 258) - The wait operation timed out." I'm using SQL Server Authentication in SS2012, unencrypted, etc. I'm really not sure what information to include, I'm sure it's some stupid issue, but for the life of me I can't find a solution. All searches give me a bunch of old as hell results. visual-studio-2012 sql-server-2012 handshake share|improve this question asked Feb 20 '13 at 1:28 Matt Hurliman 111 Have a look in the SQL server error log, you may find other useful related errors in there that may explain more, the errors returned to the client are usually not the whole story. –steoleary Feb 20 '13 at 11:13 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote -1 down vote Have you tried Fully qualified domain name? However, it is now throwing the following exception: A first chance exception of type 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException' occurred in System.Data.dll ------ Exception ------ Error: A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the pre-login handshake. (provider: SSL Provider, error: 0 - The received certificate has expired.) I am digitally signing the code with a Verisign key, but it has not expired. I don't digitally pre-login handshake error sign until I build the installer, and this is occurring on my dev system in debug, so the code had not been signed. It is also happening on other systems where the software was signed and installed. These systems access the same test database as I use on my dev system, and were working previously.
