Just got some new hardware in the mail today, and put it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDv5K5VAZHA all together. Being barely computer literate, the first couple of times I've constructed a computer I haven't had any issues. However, this time I'm getting these dma-1 errors. where do these things usually begin from? what should I be checking for? Is there a usual plan of attack for problems of this nature? Hardware is as follows incase needed. AMD Phenom II X6 Six Core 1090T Black Edition 3.20GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail http://www.techspot.com/community/topics/dma-1-error-system-halted.156674/ HIS ATI Radeon HD 6850 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card Crucial RealSSD C300 64GB 2.5" SATA 6Gbs Solid State Hard Drive (CTFDDAC064MAG-1G1) Asus M4A87TD Evo AMD 870 (Socket AM3) DDR3 Motherboard Samsung SpinPoint F4 EcoGreen 2TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (HD204UI) OCZ ModXStream Pro 700w Silent SLI Certified Modular Power Supply Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX4GX3M2A1600C9) - x2 of these Asus Xonar D1 7.1 PCI Sound Card Samsung SH-B123LRSBP 12x BD-ROM 16x DVD Writer Drive - Black (Retail) Asus TA-M11 Midi Gaming Case - BlackSilver Antec Tri-Cool 120mm Green LED PWM Fan Nov 16, 2010 #1 CCT TS Evangelist Posts: 2,653 +6 First thing I'd suggest is to pull the Asus Xonar D1 7.1 PCI Sound Card. Maybe also disconnect the Crucial RealSSD C300 64GB 2.5" SATA 6Gbs Solid State Hard Drive (CTFDDAC064MAG-1G1). Nov 19, 2010 #2 Leeky TS Evangelist Posts: 3,797 +116 Does the BIOS load OK? If so, first thing to check would be the following in BIOS: 1. CPU is correctly recognised - Some motherboards need a BIOS update to support newer CPUs. 2. Is the RAM correctly identified? All 4 sticks, and are the voltages, and timings identical to those of the memory sticks? 3. Disable on-board sound if your

It started when a friend brought in his http://forums.ocworkbench.com/showthread.php?t=29894 computer for me to look at it. It gave that error- "DMA Error, Fatal Error, System Halted"- on bootup, before locking up. The computer was running fine for him for about 5 months before he brought it in. After giving system halted the error the computer would not respond in any way and had to be shutdown with the power switch. Hardware in question- Intel 3.2Ghz Pentium 4 (Northwood) D875PBZ Desktop Board Radeon 9800, also tested with Geforce 6600 GT Antec True330 330 Watt PS, also tested with Generic brand 400 Watt PS Mitsumi PS/2 Keyboard Crucial PC400 DDR, also tested with Generic Brand PC400 DDR, single and dual channel modes Anyway, I have diagnosed many hardware issue for myself and others over the error system halted last few years so I didn't expect this to be a serious problem. I started with stripping the computer down to the bare essentials. I removed all PCI cards, the hard drive, CD-ROM, cables, mouse, etc. Only the motherboard, CPU, memory, power supply, keyboard, and video card were in use. I still got the error. I tested with memory in a different slot, no change. Different memory, different video card- no change. At this point I was sure it was the CPU or the Motherboard. I spoke with the ownder and he decided it was worth buying a new board for $80 for testing purpose. Bought and recieved new board, same model but a newer revision. Installed CPU, video card, RAM, power supply- exact same error. "DMA Error, Fatal Error, System Halted". So at this point I was thinking maybe it is the CPU. I have NEVER come across a CPU failure like this, but maybe it was the first time? I located another CPU in a spare machine, and swapped it in. Now instead of the original 3.2Ghz Pentium 4 northwood, it had a 2.8Ghz Northwood. Same freaking error. Swapped out other components- so what I have is the newly ordered board, different power supply, different CPU, different video card- no part at all from the original broken system- and I still see the same error. Reset the BIOS defaults as well incase it was just a bad setting. At thi

ECS#2002 (精英#2002) Thread Tools #1 31-03-2002, 04:21 PM Lord of Pain Posts: n/a I just flashed my K7S5A with the new OC-Bios (as of 03/18/02) and now I lso got the "DMA Error System halted"-message after Post-Screen (I suppose it doesn't finish Post). Please don't tell me to use a Amiboot.rom floppy. I have already tried this and it doesn't work (it also doesn't work with IDE-cables disconnected). Anyone got a good idea how to recover the bios? "Hot-flashing" does also not apply to me, as I don't know anybody to lend me a second mobo/flash-rom. Note I've never used any of these firms services before: http://store.firmware.com/ http://www.leandercomputing.com/bios.html The first will arrange to send you a new BIOS chip with "current BIOS" installed for US $29.95 plus shipping/handling. The second says they will arrange to reprogram your existing chip (if they support it, I haven't yet checked if the K7S5A is supported by this firm) for US $16.00 plus S/H. Supposedly a user named "zzzzzz" on the Anandtech forums will reprogram for you for US $5-6 plus shipping, but I haven't found any contact info yet. At the prices for commercial recovery and with outpost.com selling K7S5A's for under US $60 shipped to US addresses I'm tempted to simply buy another and hot-flash. As always, YMMV, etc. but at least you do have some choices. Edit, forgot to include, read from the FAQ ( http://forum.ocworkbench.com/ocwbcgi...c&f=4&t=002019 ), item 14 for more url's of firms to help with bad flash recovery. sjohnson View Public Profile
