Opened 9 years ago Last modified 3 years ago Fatal: no bootable medium found! System Halted Reported by: cheezhed Owned by: Priority: major Component: other Version: VirtualBox 1.4.0 Keywords: Cc: Guest type: other Host type: other Description I get the above error when trying to start a VM. I think it cannot read the CD drive because it is calling it /dev/hdc/, but I cannot figure out how to change it to /dev/cdrom. I'm stumped. Attachments error_log.txt (43.2 KB) - added by jiragh 7 years ago. Error log mentioned in comment "2009-04-21 20:53:51" Change History comment:1 Changed 9 years ago by frank How did you try to set the host drive as boot medium? Doesn't your host drive appear in the drop-down list in the CD/DVD-ROM drive part of the VM settings? comment:2 Changed 9 years ago by sandervl73 Status changed from new to closed Resolution set to fixed Fixed afaik. Closing. comment:3 Changed 9 years ago by Alchemists_Kitten Status changed from closed to reopened Resolution fixed deleted Fatal: no bootable medium found! System Halted Im having the same problem. Anyone have any advice? comment:4 Changed 9 years ago by michael Status changed from reopened to closed Resolution set to invalid This message simply means that you have not told your virtual machine where to find its operating system. A real system would produce the same error here. Make sure that you have installed an operating system on the hard drive or connected a bootable CD or CD image and told the virtual machine about it. The user manual will give you details of how to do this. If you are still having difficulties, you might consider posting on the VirtualBox forums or the vbox-users mailing list. comment:5 Changed 9 years ago by pdimarco I tried this and still have problems. I am running XP as the Host OS and trying to install SOlaris. I have the CD in the drive, using the virtual machine I select devices and then the D drive for my CDROM. I then select Reset and the VM restarts and fails again. In the log I get the following 00:00:39.422 PIIX3 ATA: Ctl#1: finished processing RESET 00:00:39.425 Guest Log: BIOS: CDROM boot failure code : 0004 00:00:39.426 Guest Log: BIOS: Boot from CD-ROM failed 00:00:39.426 Guest Log: BIOS: Boot from Hard Disk 0 failed 00:00:39.427 Guest Log: BIOS: Boot from Floppy 0 failed 00:0
