This error occurs when Windows is not able to install the updates downloaded by QuickBooks due to user permissions or User Account Control settings in Windows Vista or Windows 7 or 8. How to Fix: there can be more than 1 solution to this problem, you need to try them all one by one. Solution 1: Run QuickBooks as administrator Right click on QuickBooks program icon on your desktop and choose "Run as Administrator". Solution 2: Ensure Windows permissions are set correctly for QuickBooks to function. Ensure QuickBooks is closed. Navigate to C:\Program Files\ through Windows Explorer. Note: If you see C:\Program Files (x86)\, go to that folder instead as that means you have a 64bit computer. Right-click on the Intuit folder. Choose Properties. Click the Security tab. Click the Advanced button. Click the Owner tab. In the Current Owner field up top, ensure the Users group is selected. If you see SYSTEM or something other than Users, you will need to take ownership of the Intuit folder. Select Users (YOUR COMPUTER NAME\Users) and make sure Full Control has a check mark in it. Click Ok to exit the Intuit folder properties window. See if this resolves the issue you were experiencing. If not, you will need to repeat these steps above for these additional Intuit folder locations: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Intuit (Note: if you are on a 64bit computer, you will need to use C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Intuit) C:\ProgramData\Intuit C:\Users\Your User Name\AppData\Local\Intuit Solution 3: Update your QuickBooks to the latest release. Solution 4: go for a clean Install. In-case if the following steps doesn't resolve this issue then please mention where exactly were you having the difficulty.
