Solved Domain Trusts and ADMT Posted on 2007-12-18 Active Directory Server Hardware Windows Networking 1 Verified Solution 4 Comments 959 Views Last Modified: admt password migration 2012-05-05 Hi All, I have an issue which i haven't quiet been able to figure out yet. I have (Domain A) and i have (Domain B) (both on win2k servers) completely diterent domains running on the same network. Domain B is a completely new domain, New Forrest. I need to migrate users from domain A to Domain B using ADMT(2.0) but keep getting and unable to establish a session with the password export server. the rpc server is unavailable error after selecting the domains. Access denied (error code=5, domain=Domain A) I understand i have to create trusts between the two domains to get this going? is there something im missing? If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated 0 Question by:BCSITS Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 7 Best Solution bydjMundy Hi BCSITS, This article helped me a lot with migrations: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=fa187d1e-8218-4501-9729-222bd8ebb64c&displaylang=en Although it talks about Small Go to Solution 2 Comments LVL 7 Overall: Level 7 Active Directory 2 Windows Networking 1 Server Hardware 1 Message Accepted Solution by:djMundy2007-12-19 Hi BCSITS, This article helped me a lot with migrations: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=fa187d1e-8218-4501-9729-222bd8ebb64c&displaylang=en Although it talks about Small Business Server, a lot applies to standard Windows Server environments too. If you read from Step 4 it walks you through creating DNS forwarders, configuring ADMT, and then how to migrate the user and computer accounts. If you follow these steps it will create the trusts for you. Let me know if you have any more questions. fernandoronci says: December 21, 2010 at 3:13 PM Reply Thanks for responding. After reviewing and checking all permissions, DNS configurations, trusts, etc. the ADMTool finally ran smoothly on the TARGET server and the migration was completed. The only issue that I've not been able to solve (no matter how I combined the options on the ADMTool wizard) is that users' group membership is not migrated. For example, for any given migrated user his only membership on the TARGET server after migration is "Domain users", all other memberships (e.g. "Remote desktop users", "Administrators", etc. etc.) are not migrated. This basically renders all the migration process useless until I find ahave performed all the necessary prerequisite steps. At the point where you are to select the source and target domain, I receive the error "Access is denied(error code = 5 http://www.winvistatips.com/threads/admt-tool.680225/ domain=test). If DNS isn't working properly, you won't have the appropriate access as you can't be validated in the trusting domain. -- Paul Williams http://www.msresource.net http://forums.msresource.net "test" <> wrote in message news:...
