(and feeling very frustrated), I found a few workarounds to this annoying error. I'm continually getting the "an unknown error has occurred" illustrator an unknown error has occurred when opening when I try to save various files. I cannot figure out illustrator won't save unknown error any type of pattern or consistent behavior that causes this. None of my files are overly complex or

contain corrupt fonts which I've read can cause this. I've made sure my OS and software are all up to date and even uninstalled and reinstalled the software to no http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/332690.html avail. I contacted Adobe this weekend as I was trying to meet an early Monday morning deadline only to discover their tech support is closed on the weekend. For a company of that size I was quite unimpressed with this. I did find 2 temporary solutions that seem to work. Turning off all layer visibility seemed to consistently allow me http://sewheidi.com/illustrator-cannot-save-an-unknown-error-has-occurred/ to save the file. As soon as I turned visibility back on and tried to save (no change or edit to the artwork, simply just turned visibility on), I got the error again. Weird. Saving as an EPS seemed to consistently work. This is the solution I used to work through my project and meet my deadline. I'll surely be on the phone with Adobe tomorrow and update this post with any info I find out that can hopefully solve this problem. If you're suffering from the same aggravation, hopefully one of the above two solutions will temporarily work for you.

Many of you know us for our bad file recovery service here at Markzware, where we can fix your bad InDesign or QuarkXPress file. Now, and here's a little form, where, you know, you can get more information on that, which is, you know, naturally very useful if you have a corrupt InDesign or QuarkXPress type of file, but what we can also often recover are PDFs and Adobe Illustrator native .ai files, and that's what I'm going to show you today: how that works. With the customer's file, we had permission to show this. So, pretty neat. Let's go check it out. Okay, so let's launch Adobe Illustrator here, CS5 in this case, but doesn't really matter. Alright, so here's the Illustrator file in question. And please excuse my voice; I have a slight flu here. So, this is a bad Illustrator file. We can also convert corrupt Illustrator files, as you'll see here. So, this is a much better sign than what we saw in Illustrator. We'r

I know a lot of you guys use Adobe's Illustrator out there and I've got a real conflict going on so I hope someone can help.I have 2 Macs running CS. The laptop has suddenly developed this problem. I can create a new document or load an existing doc, work on it etc, but if I add any amount of text and attempt to save it I get firstly : 'an unknown error has occured', once I click 'OK' then I get 'Can't save preview, but all other information was saved. The file couldn't be found ID= -43'. Needless to say nothing gets saved.I had noticed something odd though. In the character palatte, while I could choose a font from the drop down menu, no chosen font name showed up in the box - that was the first indication that something was wrong. I've run fontdoctor on the fonts with no issues being reported. I've tried trashing the prefs, caches, repairing permissions, reinstalling - nothing helps. I've ruled out user issues by launching a second user and trying it in there - same problem. I really need to use illustrator on the laptop. Any help would be really appreciated. iMac 20", 2.1GHz, 250GB HD, 1.5GB ram, Mac OS X (10.4.7), iBook G4 1.33Ghz, Maxtor 200GB onetouch III, 2mb DSL, Linksys WRT54G wifi Posted on Sep 15, 2006 2:43 AM I have this question too Close Q: Can't save illustrator docs anymore!!
