An Unknown Error Occurred Error Code 0x80040154
I am having an issue with code analysis. I am running vs 2012 on a win 8 machine. The error I am getting is: CA0001 Error Running Code Analysis CA0001 : An unknown error occurred while running Code Analysis. [Errors and Warnings] (Global) That is all the info I get. I have tried looking at the CodeAnalysisLog.xml for each of the projects but they are all empty. I have an unknown error occurred error code 0x80040119 downloaded a new fresh copy of the trunk that everyone else is working from, and I am still getting this issue. No one else on my team is getting these, just me. I am guessing it has something to do with my machine and not the project since the code base works for everyone else. I am at a loss, I have no idea where to go from here. c# visual-studio-2012 code-analysis static-code-analysis share|improve this question asked Jun 9 '15 at 18:42 scott lafoy 155116 do you have any custom rules applied? –dotctor Jun 9 '15 at 18:47 No custom rules applied. –scott lafoy Jun 9 '15 at 18:47 try closing visual studio, make a backup, deleting every ".sou" and ".csproj.user" then relaunch and test –dotctor Jun 9 '15 at 18:49 Thank you for the reply. I have deleted all csproj.user files and I had no .sou files. Still having the same issue. I believe this was the same state after checking out the solution fresh though. –scott lafoy Jun 9 '15 at 19:11 .suo files are hidden. I think explorer is set to hide these files. I'm interested in running code analysis http://stackoverflow.com/questions/30740249/unknown-code-analysis-error to identify dead code. There's lots of it and it's driving me crazy. I'm getting the error in the title, which I've had no luck finding in Microsoft's documentation or any other reference to it on the web. I can get code analysis to run on similar, new projects in the solution with newer code. I suspect it may be a problem with the project file itself or older items included in the project. I'm just https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/a0e92911-4033-4dbe-bdfa-1527f39c6c09/code-analysis-error-ca0001-an-unknown-error-occurred-while-running-code-analysis?forum=vstscode looking for any kind of hint on where to start since the error occurs at a high level, doesn't generate the CodeAnalysisReport.xml file and gives me no clue. Other pertinent details. FXCop isn't involved. We aren't using it... yet. Doesn't matter which rule set I try to run or which build configuration. Project is set to framework 4.0. Project in question has both Service References, Web References, strongly typed datasets, and cs files. Project file does complain about schema in some areas but haven't been able to identify that is the problem. Have tried cleaning up schema complaints in project file to no avail. Any ideas are appreciated! Thanks! Back to manually going through the files to look for refs :( Tuesday, November 06, 2012 7:43 PM Answers 0 Sign in to vote Hi Arhiannas, Thank you for posting in the MSDN forum. Would you mind sharing us the detailed error message? CA0001 There are a few reasons which would generated this issue, I have met this error, it is related to the assembly which is referenced or the build type like this thread “CA0001”, if possible, you could refer it, hope it could help. If possible, you could share us a sample, we try to check it in our Environment. Thanks for your understanding. Best Regards, Jack Zhai [MSFT] MSDN Community Support

The free VS 2015 community edition can build UIforETW and the VC++ 2015 compiler has http://visualstudio2010yahya5.blogspot.com/2015/10/vs2010-code-analysis-ca0001-unknown.html additional C99 and C++ features that may make development easier, such as %zd, constexpr, etc. mwinterb commented Oct 15, 2015 One minor "for free" gain is that upgrading to VS 2015 will fix ElapsedTimer, as steady_clock is finally steady. unknown error It will also further blur any differences between ElapsedTimer and QPCElapsedTimer as steady_clock now uses QueryPerformanceCounter. mwinterb commented Oct 15, 2015 Also, /Zc:strictStrings can be enabled in debug mode as well as release, as the debug operator new overloads issue has been addressed. randomascii commented Oct 15, 2015 Thanks for the information. @ariccio - any thoughts? ariccio commented Oct 15, 2015 I really like the idea of upgrading, but haven't yet gotten my hands on a proper version of unknown error occurred VS2015... so I wouldn't be able to build UIforETW if we use any VS2015-only features >:( randomascii commented Oct 15, 2015 I used the free VS 2015 community edition. Would that work for you? If we upgraded then I would want to start using new language features immediately, but I don't want to leave you behind, so I'd rather not upgrade yet if it will block you. ariccio commented Oct 15, 2015 I used the free VS 2015 community edition. Would that work for you? Hold up... Microsoft DOES include MFC in the free edition? Have I been laboring under the delusion that VS2015 community edition does not include MFC for the whole time? If the community edition includes MFC, then there's absolutely no reason to hold back, and I'll enthusiastically upgrade. Oof, my own stupidity truly knows no bound. ariccio commented Oct 15, 2015 Ahh, I must've read "doesn't support multibyte MFC" as "doesn't support MFC". Since nobody sane uses multibyte MFC, it's a moot point. randomascii commented Oct 15, 2015 I think that the express editions of Microsoft for VS 2013 and earlier did not come with MFC, or at least they were less powerful and more restrictive. The VS 2015 community edition seems remarkably capable. I'll upgrade when I get a chance, and probably add something to the CONTRIBUTING page so that potential contributors know that 'free' is an option. rpavlik commen
Code Analysis It is a very unhelpful error. I have yet to find a good article or post(here and elsewhere) that explains the cause of this :/ here is the section of the project file for the configuration the project runs under. We are just using the minimumRecommendedRules The CodeAnalysisLog file is touched every time it builds, but has nothing in it, so is of no use to me.
