up vote 24 down vote favorite 6 I'm trying to run a simple LDAP query using directory services in .Net. DirectoryEntry directoryEntry = new DirectoryEntry("LDAP://someserver.contoso.com/DC=contoso,DC=com"); directoryEntry.AuthenticationType = AuthenticationTypes.Secure; DirectorySearcher directorySearcher = new DirectorySearcher(directoryEntry); directorySearcher.Filter = string.Format("(&(objectClass=user)(objectCategory=user) (sAMAccountName={0}))", username); var result = directorySearcher.FindOne(); var resultDirectoryEntry = result.GetDirectoryEntry(); return resultDirectoryEntry.Properties["msRTCSIP-PrimaryUserAddress"].Value.ToString(); And I'm getting the following exception: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80005000): Unknown error (0x80005000) at System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry.Bind(Boolean throwIfFail) at System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry.Bind() at System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry.get_AdsObject() at System.DirectoryServices.DirectorySearcher.FindAll(Boolean findMoreThanOne) at System.DirectoryServices.DirectorySearcher.FindOne() As a snippet in a Console app, this works. But when I run it as part of a WCF service (run under the same credentials), it throws the above exception. Any suggestions? I think. I have a VB.Net app that uses Directory Services to create several https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/03aa04ec-9938-4c55-b351-5defa02e2a80/systemruntimeinteropservicescomexception-unknown-error-0x80005000?forum=netfx64bit Virtual Directories in IIS. This app work perfectly, without error or exception of any kind on 32bit machines (XP, Vista, Server2003, Server2008, etc.) running IIS5/6/7. However, when I run the app (making no code changes) on our first 64bit test machine, a Win Server 2008 R2 64bit with IIS7.5, it throws a "System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException" exception. The method executed when the exception is thrown (the "If DirectoryEntry.Exists()..." line is what I believe is throwing the exception): Public Sub CreateVirtualDirectory(ByVal IISPath As String, ByVal PhysicalPath As String, ByVal FolderName As String, ByVal AccessRead As Boolean, ByVal AccessWrite As Boolean, ByVal AccessSource As Boolean, ByVal AccessScript As Boolean, ByVal AccessExecute As Boolean, Optional ByVal SetAsApplication As Boolean = False) Try Dim Parent As New DirectoryEntry(IISPath) Dim NewVirtualDirectory As DirectoryEntry ' Remove the directory if it exists If DirectoryEntry.Exists(IISPath & "/" &
funny little thing today when I was trying to enumerate children of a Directory Entry:. System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80005000): Unknown error (0x80005000) at System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry.Bind(Boolean throwIfFail) at System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry.Bind() at System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry.get_IsContainer() at http://www.laxdal.org/node/33 System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntries.ChildEnumerator..ctor(DirectoryEntry container) at System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntries.GetEnumerator() at Program.Program.Main(String[] args) Very helpful error message : "Unknown error (0x80005000)", search on google didn't turn up anything useful at first glance, something about primary https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/25272138/System-Runtime-InteropServices-COMException-Unknown-error-0x80005000.html tokens in asp.net and something about this popping up when people were doing LDAP stuff.. neither helped me much. The error was occuring when I defined my DirectoryEntry so after a short code review unknown error I found the issue. I was calling : DirectoryEntry AppPoolRoot = new DirectoryEntry("IIS://Localhost/W3SVC/AppPools/"); When I should have been doing this. DirectoryEntry AppPoolRoot = new DirectoryEntry("IIS://Localhost/W3SVC/AppPools"); Notice the trailing slash, that little bugger was causing this error. So make sure you are using the correct path if you run into this.
