I googled it a bit and found this suggestion to run the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. That website looks dubious, but the tool is from Microsoft so I figured it won't do much damage. Anyway, after running that tool I tried running the installer again, but now I got a new error message "OnCatalogResult: 0x80072ee6", and the installer quits. Googling for this did not help too much. There are some suggestions to do regsvr32 MSXML3.dll, but that didn't help me, plus it seems like they're talking about a different situation (problem with messenger vs problem with installer). Any suggestions? windows instant-messaging installer windows-live share|improve this question asked Oct 29 '09 at 8:46 itsadok 97821325 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote OK, following advice I found here, I removed all the Windows Live applications from my computer, and then tried installing again. Using the web installer did not work, though, and gave me the same error. I then downloaded the wlsetup-all.exe, a
that I've come across. I recently tried to upgrade from my previous beta version http://blog.sidmitra.com/get-a-standalone-version-of-windows-live-esse of Writer to a new one at http://download.live.com/. I can’t figure out this fixation for web installers everywhere. First you download an installer which in turn will http://www.taringa.net/post/hazlo-tu-mismo/13896788/Solucion-a-error-del-messenger-OnCatalogResult-0x80072ee6.html download more stuff. This is an obvious problem if you want to run the installer on a computer that’s offline (yes, that does happen in this windows live day and age!!). It is also a major problem if the web installer croaks and complains that there isn’t an internet connection when there evidently is. You get stuck with this unhelpful error: OnCatalogResult: 0x80072ee6 There are some suggestions given here, but they didn’t work for me. The only way to get 2009 offline installer it working was to download a standalone version. When you click the download link on the main page you’re redirected to a page and also get the prompt to download the web installer (something like http://download.microsoft.com/download/E/B/7/EB7AAFE7-514F-495A-A981-99830FE8E99E/en/wlsetup-web.exe). You can choose to cancel this prompt and press “Try Again” on the same page to download the full standalone version. Or even simply rename the above link to wlsetup-all.exe instead of wlsetup-web.exe. The file size is a lot bigger, but it works! Upvote Upvoted 0 Tweet Like this post?
