I personally use it and it works great. You just look for all entries related to the Windows Live Essentials program, Windows Live Messenger, MSN Messenger and use Revo uninstaller to uninstall these programs completely, which also deletes all traces and remnants of the programs from the registry. Just uninstall the main components first that dont give a pop up message saying dont uninstall unless you know what youre doing, the main components of the Windows Live Messenger/MSN Messenger/Live Messenger Essentials wont have that pop up so be sure to use revo to uninstall all those Messenger related programs first, then it will be safe to uninstall any leftovers (if there are any).
