One reason windows live for getting this error code in Outlook Express and Windows Live Mail when receiving mail, with both POP and IMAP incoming server type, is an incorrect port number. If you have enabled encryption for the incoming mail server but you have changed the port number to the non-encryption one (110 for POP, 143 for IMAP), you'll get the error number windows live mail 0x800CCC0F. So make sure that if you have enabled encryption the port numbers are correct: 995 for POP, 993 for IMAP. In case the port number is incorrect the error message in Outlook Express will look like this: our server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'servername.com', Server: 'servername.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F As you can notice in the error message, SSL is enabled but the wrong port number is used. The error message in Windows Live Mail is almost the same. Another “all time favorite” reason for getting this error number is your antivirus software or firewall. Disable your antivirus application, or even uninstall it, to make sure it's not causing this problem. If you need more information on configuring Outlook Express or Windows Live Mail to use your email account read the respective tutorial. Add to Favourites Print this Article Was this answer helpful? I have Vista HP and windows mail through virginmedia (UK). My mail has been working fine for months until this morning I received this message and now can't receive mail. I can still SEND it however. Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'pop3.blueyonder.co.uk', Server: 'pop3.blueyonder.co.uk', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F I have, as advised, switched off email scanning on my Norton Antivirus program (360). Still does not work. I have checked all the right boxes in my only email account. Still does not work. Also I do not have problems receiving emails on my laptop (Mac powerbook) or on my iphone, or on my webmail account. But as I am an author I have to receive many large manuscripts etc by email and would prefer to receive them on my desktop pc - the one on which I can't receive emails any more. I do not dare uninstall and reinstall windows mail as I don't wish to lose all the emails in my inbox. My ISP (virginmedia) is hopeless and can't offer any advice. Please could someone provide me with advice/a solution which I can actually understand. My System Specs You need to have JavaScript enabled so that you can use this ... Try saving all of your emails onto your desktop in a folder, then reinstalling windows mail? And I'm not 100% sure, but isn't windows mail just a software version of www.hotmail.com?
