install Security Update for Windows 7 (KB2872339) and Internet Explorer 11 for many months. I currently have IE9. The Update window use to include IE10, but that no longer is listed even though the computer is running IE9. I've tried all the fixes I can find on the interent. Nothing has worked. I tried downloading KB2872339 from the Microsoft website. When it tries to install it, I get the message that it is code 646 windows update encountered an unknown error not applicalbe for my machine. Just to confuse the issue, when Windows update runs, it states that KB2872339 was successful, only to have it listed again that it needs to be installed. Any help woukd be appreciated. I had that problem with 11. I installed it only to find out that my gadgets were gone. To resolve the issue i uninstalled 11 and went back to 10. You should still be able to find 10 on microsoft's site somewhere. As for the security update; make sure it says whether or not its designed for 32 or 64 bit windows 7; as ive had updates come up via the update; that i thought were designed for my version of 7; but ended up being for the other one for some reason. Also; as for it not installing; i would read what the error says

It always shows I have these important updates: Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7 x64-based http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/329735-security-update-windows-7-kb2872339-ie11-will-not-install.html Systems Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2871997) Security Update for Windows 7 x64-based Systems (KB2872339) Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2882822) Every time I attempt to download/install them they fail to install and go back into the "Important Updates" section to be downloaded/installed again. I don't remember the exact error message, though I can try installing again to get it. https://forums.anandtech.com/threads/win-7-wont-update.2387496/ EDIT: Ok, so each time it says 3 updates succeeded while 1 failed, the one being: Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7 x64-based Systems Error found: Code 9C57 Windows Update encountered an unknown error. However, whenever I restart and go back to Windows Update, those 3 that it said 'succeeded' are back in there. #1 lilrayray69, Jun 15, 2014 Last edited: Jun 15, 2014 Smoove910 Golden Member Joined: Aug 2, 2006 Messages: 1,184 Likes Received: 0 ave you tried to download and install manually?
