the WSUS server manually via Internet Explorer and also confirmed no proxy settings were coming into play. I tried the age old trick of stopping the Windows Update service code 800736b3 and renaming the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder to SoftwareDistribution.old and restarting the service. This regenerates the 800f0902 windows update server 2008 Windows Update configuration for you. This stubborn error survived that reset, so I finally came across a Microsoft FixIT KB article to windows clean up utility fix Windows Update problems. I'm quite skeptical of using these, and I prefer to know exactly what's being fixed, but without any other options, I decided to give it a try. No surprise, it said http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-update/how-do-i-work-around-error-800f0902/7c15d0a9-0838-4bff-9faa-6ccbee761558 it found a configuration problem and fixed it, but the error persisted. A few other posts suggested an issue with trustedinstaller.exe (aka Windows Module Installer Service) so I gave that a restart and started receiving 80080005 errors. Another post suggested that after a reboot, this error cleared for that user. Sure enough, a reboot solved the problem for me as well. Sure enough, the three patches that failed worked after rebooting. I did not even have to mess with the SoftwareDistribution folder. Just happened today after the July patches. Reply David T. says: July 6, 2013 at 6:16 pm Simply restarting the "Windows Module Installer" service did the trick for me. Reply Leave a Reply Cancel reply Your email address will not be published. Windows updates will not install error code 800F0902 Started by Ziva , Apr 20 2014 12:32 AM Please log in to reply 6 replies to this topic #1 Ziva Ziva Members 101 posts OFFLINE Local time:05:28 PM Posted 20 April 2014 - 12:32 AM I just got a new Dell Inspirion laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium Service pack 2. As usual there were several Windows Security updates that needed to be installed. Took two days to install them all. Or I thought all had installed. But after Secunia PSI kept insisting that no updates were installed, I checked the update history and found several had failed to install. All have the same Error code of 800F0902 I ran Microsoft Fixit tool, which said it detected no problems. But obviously that too failed. The list of updates that failed are too numerous to report but here a few: KB2909210 KB2656356 KB2789645 KB2756921 Most seemed to have to do with the Net Framework 3.5.1. Does anyone have a clue how I can resolves this? Most importantly is my new Dell a lemon?
