After seeing this data I did a stare and compare between my root permissions and his and found that he’d modified the c:\ permissions on his system: His machine: c:\temp\xcacls c: C:\ NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM:(OI)(CI)F BUILTIN\Administrators:(OI)(CI)F Mine: C:\>xcacls c:\ c:\ BUILTIN\Administrators:F BUILTIN\Administrators:(OI)(CI)(IO)F NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM:F NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM:(OI)(CI)(IO)F BUILTIN\Users:(OI)(CI)R <— This is the key one missing that was causing the headache. Severl updates installed fine, now it's stuck with these 2 security updates waiting to be installed. When I attempt the install, though Windows Update, they fail with the referenced code. Have also downloaded KB958690 directly to the desktop and it still fails to install. I've stopped the WU service, deleted the SoftwareDistribution folder with no luck. Have removed AV program and anything else I thought might be interfering. This is driving me nuts... have found no good answers on the web (most info pertains to Vista). See WU Log file below from local install attempt. 2009-04-06 20:52:03:317 1016 c5c Misc =========== Logging initialized (build: 7.2.6001.788, tz: -0500) =========== 2009-04-06 20:52:03:317 1016 c5c Misc = Process: C:\Windows\system32\svchost.exe 2009-04-06 20:52:03:317 1016 c5c Misc = Module: c:\windows\system32\wuaueng.dll 2009-04-06 20:52:03:317 1016 c5c Service ************* 2009-04-06 20:52:03:317 1016 c5c Service ** START ** Service: Service startup 2009-04-06 20:52:03:317 1016 c5c Service ********* 2009-04-06 20:52:03:319 1016 c5c Agent * WU client version 7.2.6001.788 2009-04-06 20:52:03:319 1016 c5c Agent * Base directory: C:\Windows\Sof

Yet it's also showing as installed up vote 2 down vote favorite I've got 15 Windows 2008 R2 x64 servers that I manage with SCCM2012. I've noticed during my Windows updates reporting that there's two boxes that are showing as 'error' for total updates installed. Digging around, it looks like the update that is failing to install is KB2667402. The Software Centre on the server itself shows the following: The software change returned error code 0x80004005(-2147467259). So SCCM thinks it hasn't installed the update. However, if I go to the Programs and Features application and select 'Windows Updates', I can see an entry for KB2667402: If I try and uninstall this, I get an error: An error occurred. Not all of the updates were successfully uninstalled If I try and download the patch from Microsoft directly, I get the same error installing as displayed in Software Centre. The only odd thing about this setup that I can think would affect this is that I run the RDP service on a non-standard port. However, I do this across all the servers, so it seems odd that it would fail on just 2 out of 15.
